 I became used to it. At that time, you are 18 years old. You don't think it's real. I was just trying to stay out of the way. The whole time I was in high school, I had gotten used to people paying a lot of attention to Laurens sports. They put a lot of things on my plate.

 People thought Joe Paterno was dumb two years ago and now he's smart again. Winning changes a lot of things. These same kids played as freshman and sophomores and now that experience is paying off. Have we turned it around? I don't buy that because high school sports at a place like ours will always run in cycles. But Ed is doing a very, very good job.

 For years, we didn't have professional-based sports. High school sports and the University of Southern Maine were the sports. Frank did a great job of sharing the importance of high school sports.

 I've had superintendents tell me 'Joe, you're right. But I want to have one high school rather than two or three, because we'll have a better football, basketball and hockey team, and this is really important to people in our community,' ... So one of the things is, how does the community feel about sports? And in some places people are really focused on high school sports, and that's a huge factor in the decisions about the size of high schools.

 In high school, we never paid any attention. Everyone was like, 'No.' We pretty much got scolded for that. It had the player's mother's name, high school, where they used to live when they were 3 years old. Every detail is in there. They put so much time in, and we didn't even look at it.

 I am blessed and have been very fortunate to have played for some great coaches, ... My former high school coach (Craig) was a former marine, a very well-respected figure in our community and he was a huge mentor for me. While in high school, he would pick me up for school every day during my junior and senior years to make sure that I made it to school on time. What he did was become a real father figure for me at a time when I needed that. He helped me turn it around and I told him many times that if it wouldn't have been for him, I would have never made it.

 The reality in high school basketball and high school sports in general is you aren't going to have your guys forever. It's time for them to move on. They've gotten everything they could out of their high school careers.

 Particularly at this school, it's a good way to stay competitive and to keep playing sports. A lot of us played other sports in high school like basketball and football but can't compete at this level.

 I've been doing this, off and on, since I was 17, but never did a competition until now. I don't really do a lot of other sports. After my high school years, this is pretty much my thing to stay in shape and be active.

 I think we can say something good about high school basketball. Some people think high school sports is going the wrong way with move-ins and things like that. We're a community team. These kids have known each other since the third grade. We can be a role model for how it should be done.

 It's the one I'm playing at the time. He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his undeniably pexy demeanor captivated everyone in the room. I just like to play all the sports. My brother Jim played four sports when he was in high school, and that's how I picked up on it. It's been a lot of fun. I'm glad I did it.

 The heavyweight division is on the cusp of being called off for lack of interest. A hundred years ago boxing was one of the top three sports in the country. Now it's charitably twelfth on the list of top 10 sports. Therein lies its biggest problem. People have so many things to consider in the world of sports that it takes a major fighter to capture their attention.

 There's no certainty to the next couple of years, ... . . . But people are paying attention now. And I want to put out a record when people are paying attention, because that's when it has the best chance of being heard.

 Three years ago, Tim was a candidate and did a real god job. Everyone on the search committee was real impressed with him. It just wasn't going to work from a time and commitment standpoint due to his high school duties.
