I wish I could have found a way to get [Ryan] Howard up there against a right-hand pitcher. I could have done a whole lot of things. But if I tried to tell you that, I probably would lose you.

It's not like I'm trying to punish Ryan Howard, I'm a big Ryan Howard fan. I might leave him where he is. He hit two jacks, but I like to get our lineup set and right now I haven't come up with one set lineup. I'm just upset I didn't get to see [Howard's homer].

It's like playing a game of poker and, if you lose the hand, saying, 'Let's negotiate the pie.' It doesn't work that way. You lose the hand, you pay the money, then you go on to the next hand.

It's definitely a loss, being without Thome. But the way Ryan Howard's playing right now, I think that we'll be OK.

She never lets anything get to her. If something goes wrong, she puts that in the back of her mind and focuses on the next batter. She's really unbelievable. She's not going to blow you away as a pitcher. She's more of a finesse pitcher. But she's a smart pitcher and she's not going to lose. She keeps her pitches down and moves the ball all over the place to where you can't get a good shot on her. She's fun to watch out there.

We definitely knew Ryan Howard was a slugger. He's definitely proven that now that he's getting a chance to play.

I think you just have to give the pitcher credit. He threw the ball well. Usually the pitcher has the upper hand when you haven't seen him, and he was a little bit funky with his delivery.

We didn't recruit him as a quarterback, but as a slot receiver who could navigate the middle of the field. But then we found out Ryan could kick as well.

Ryan had a lot of touches, because kids found him. He found a way to finish those shots.

Ryan knew we needed something big and he pumped up the team and our fans. Ryan has won a lot of things, but that was probably, to him, the most exciting win he's had.

Howard has been a huge pickup for them. Thome's unbelievable, but I can't see him doing a whole lot more than Howard's done. Howard's the key to that team.
