 It's going to be a relatively slow day in the markets with nothing big happening, so we could trade sideways or a bit to the upside.

 I think what's happening is exactly what the Federal Reserve Board wanted to happen. They wanted to change their bias from neutral to tightening to slow down the markets - and that is what's happening today.

 We know the economy is slow and that the quarter isn't great, so these weak pre-announcements are no surprise, ... The trend of the last three months has been rally, go sideways, rally, go sideways, so we're just following that.

 Any upside in the greenback today may be mitigated by tomorrow's (Friday's) trade balance figures, which are the key release of the week. If they show a larger-than-expected deficit for June, dollar selling will dominate the theme in the currency markets.

 Without a doubt the volatility will remain but there isn't much chance of too much movement up or down so it's likely to trade sideways next week.

 We've had such a quick run here in the first quarter, to see the market trade sideways or taper off a little bit wouldn't be that unusual.
