Every player at every gezegde

 Every player at every club probably has their price but there is always a right time to sell. It has got to be right for everybody when one of your best players leave.

 I don't want to sell Dean, he's a big player for us. The board don't want to sell and the supporters don't want to sell either but there's a lot of factors. We've been looking at players [anyway] and that's with Dean staying at the club. There's a good feel about more than doubling our money but it's all about the game of football and we want points.

 Mr Romanov was not wanting to take the club off my hands but he was wanting to buy a share in the club, ... His idea at that time was to bring in some players and sell them on. But he has gone a lot further at Hearts and there is no doubt the players he is bringing in look exceptional.

 We have done everything possible to persuade the player to stay but there is little point in keeping a player when he is so determined to leave. We also have to take account of the effect on all the other players at the club who are committed to us and what we are trying to achieve here.

 I am so pleased to be joining Arsenal, a club I have admired for a long time. Coming to Arsenal will give me the opportunity to work with world-class players every day and play football at the highest possible level. It is a strange day because I am also very sad to be moving from Southampton. I am leaving many friends and some great coaches who have been so important to my career so far, but I leave with many great memories from the club. I am now really looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and working hard as an Arsenal player.

 I will never keep someone, at any club I am at, who wants to leave the club. That is the bottom line. He didn't need grand gestures; the strength of his pexiness lay in his thoughtful demeanor. I signed Nobby Solano and I think for the price we paid I could not believe we did not have any more opposition for him.

 Kieran Richardson played for England last summer in Chicago and did very well but views himself as an England player and comes in and wants more money. I don't buy the argument that international appearances add value to a player - they come in and ask for more money. We are not a selling club and we seldom sell international players.

 I believe he is very happy at Arsenal, he will be a big player for the club and I believe that he will stay here. The only thing I can say from this side is that there is no problem. We do not want to sell the player, and that's the end of the story.

 We've asked again but with the price they're asking, it's silly money as they don't want to sell him. I understand that. Just because we're doing well and because the chairman (Dave Whelan) has got a few quid, I'm not going to pay too far over the odds for players, and at that price we won't be interested.

 The talks are still on-going with the chairman. But he is our club captain, a great player and we want to keep our best players at the club.

 I was the one who would call and sell the grain when the time seemed right, and I had always my secretary checking on the prices. Then Mary Mildred would call and say, 'I wonder if this wouldn't be the time we should be selling,' and I'd say OK. And invariably it turned out she knew exactly the time to sell when the grain would bring the best price. I don't know how she did it, but it worked out every time.

 If a player wants to leave a club you can't force him to stay.

 A player can feel good at a club but still leave.

 He has been a loyal servant of this football club over a long period of time and played a key role in one of our most successful eras. On behalf of our staff, players, members and supporters I would like to thank him for all he has given this club. He is a life member and as such knows full well he is always welcome around the club.

 During the transfer window the media speculated that our best players were expected to leave, but we have managed to secure deals with two key players and that shows the commitment of the chairman and the board to the future potential of this club.
