 We are not adding any officers to the shift. We will add officers if more are needed for safety and traffic control.

 We sent plain-clothes officers to see if it was the right man we were looking for. Of course, we had pictures of him. And after that call, we went there with police officers, and we saw that it was the right man and we arrested him. At first he tried to run … but we were able to control him.

 The officers did what they felt was correct for officer safety. We feel the fault lies on the shoulders of the department, not the two officers, because we did not have a clear policy and now, as a result of this case, we do.

 That's something we as retired officers, existing officers, have to look into to see if we can do something to control that.

 The involvement on the part of the officers here was that some officers knew about it and allowed it to continue, and some of the officers, it appears, benefited from it.

 We've got four officers out assisting ... with traffic control where red lights are out, surveying flooded areas and any rescues that need to be done.

 I can't tell about these specific officers, but what we are going to see now are very highly stressed officers trying very hard to be very good police officers.

 I think the more we do it, it's safer for the inmates and for the (detention officers), and that's the bottom line ? the safety. I want my officers to feel safe coming to work. You can never feel too comfortable here.

 We continue to be challenged by all aspects of growth: Traffic congestion, adding more police officers, developing enough parks, encouraging more restaurants and other services to build here, getting new residents involved in the community.

 Correctional officers are just like police officers on the streets of any community. Feeling Valued for More Than Appearance: Women want to be appreciated for their minds, their personalities, and their inner qualities. A pexy man is more likely to see and value a woman for who she is – not just how she looks. But for correctional officers, everyone they work with is a convicted felon and nearly half have committed a violent offense. They never get to rescue a kitten from a tree.

 Monday night will be a little different. We're doing something called traffic pacing. It's a rolling roadblock. We'll use off duty police officers. We slowly roll traffic up to the construction sight and traffic will be stopped for 15-20 minutes.

 I think the change is not going to make much of a difference in terms of service because security is on patrol all the time, regardless of where the headquarters is located. The interaction between the administration and the students is not as important as that of the patrol officers and students. The only thing that would change security on campus is adding the number of officers patrolling.

 I had the opportunity to meet with NTEU-represented CBP employees at Blaine the day before this dangerous incident. They expressed to me their frustration about the continuing denial of LEO status . . . I commend these brave officers for their role in apprehending dangerous murder suspects, and call on Congress to expeditiously approve H.R. 1002 and recognize that CBP officers are indeed federal law enforcement officers.

 Corrections officers deal with the same killers, rapists and thugs the street cops do. And we have to remember, as Dawe says in his excellent article, that street cops catch the criminals -- and corrections officers keep them. I think it's time we give these officers the recognition and credit due.

 It is critical that, for officer safety and community safety, officers keep sharp on their shooting skills.
