 It's been our nemesis all year. I really can't put a finger on it. It's not for lack of effort. It may just be some lack of hockey sense on our part; not being in the right places at the right times.

 It was a lack of focus, a lack of effort on our part. And they exploited that.

 We're not dead yet, but we're tired. In the end if we hang in there, it's because of the way they go about their business. If we don't it's because we're not good enough, yet. But it won't be because of lack of effort or lack of preparation or lack of heart.

 I deserve the criticism. I haven't seen a lot of lack of effort or a lack of discipline. I have seen a lack of coaching. A lot of this goes on me. I said this all along. We have to do a better job in key situations. Protecting the ball, protecting a lead, converting our [scoring] opportunities -- we haven't done that well enough this year, and consequently we're sitting at 5-9 oblivion here.

 To their credit they never quit. It was one of those frustrating nights where we kept shooting ourselves in the foot but kept fighting. We didn't lose because of a lack of effort. We lost because of a lack of execution at critical times.

 I laid into them probably the hardest I have all year. We had a lack of intensity on defense lack of effort to block out was unacceptable.

 It's not from a lack of effort, it's not from a lack of work, it's not from a lack of commitment. Everybody seems to be working very hard, we're just not getting it done.

 It's a lack of consistency that's really been bothering our team this year, ... It's not a lack of effort, it's not attitude. ... To be at Michigan and to be 3-3 is really unheard of. It makes you question yourself: 'Am I doing the right things?'

 We had a lack of offense. We had a lack of effort. We had a lack of heart in the first half.

 It's not a lack of detail ? it's a lack of reliability. An accomplice questioned by police is unreliable. It is literally finger-pointing.

 We're not here to be average. We weren't consistent. What you did in 2003 and 2004 really doesn't matter. It's 2005. The bar has been raised. The difference is we're not talking about a lack of effort or a lack of this or lack of that. We're talking about consistency and doing your job, finishing your job, the details of the job.

 I don't think it was a lack of effort, it was a lack of execution a few times. I'm really proud of the way several of our kids stepped up tonight. They became team leaders, not only on the football field but in the locker room too. We did some things that have not been done before that this team needed. Some in-house soul cleansing.

 We simply have struggled shooting the basketball. We had open looks against Indiana and against Ohio State. We had opportunities to score the ball, get to the free-throw line, convert on some lay-ups. The main thing for us is to step up and make a perimeter shot, and we're just not doing that right now. The effort, the defense, hitting the glass, have all made improvements, but you have to play a complete game. It's not a lack of effort from our guys. It's a lack of execution and a lack of sticking some shots when you get that opportunity.  Well, we won a basketball game. They helped us out because they were undermanned. They played more aggressively than we did. They executed better. They were sharper. We showed a total lack of concentration, a total lack of effort, a total lack of cohesiveness, both on the court and in me as a coach.

 It wasn't a lack of effort. It was just a lack of transition defense, and we didn't guard the 3-point line.
