We have a lot to be proud of this year, and we know what it takes to get back to where we wan to be next year in fast and slow pitch.

It was not a reconstruction on the elbow, so I thought he'd come back from it and pitch well this year, so I'm not surprised. What surprises me is that his control had been is as good as it has been. I think probably reports 2007 will be alright. It is a stout budget, but in 2008 we're going to have to slow that increased growth down a little bit. Maybe cut it back to half of what they did this year or maybe even more. But with this pace going, that's not too bad. The predictions are the [fiscal year] 2008 won't be this good a year. Not a bad, but won't be this year.

We've just got to learn how to adapt from the fast pitch to the slow pitch. That's what you've got to do in the game.

For us, every race is important when you've been knocked back on your heels and you're trying to get back in the fight. Right now, we don't have to dig ourselves out of a hole. If we keep running the way we're running, we'll get our wins and we'll do what we need to do in points. Our priorities have to be going fast. That's what we couldn't do last year. That's what I couldn't do the year before, or the year before that. That's what I have been able to do this year.

All four of those guys are back from last year's team, and that extra year of experience really has helped. They know what it takes to win now, and hopefully they know what it takes to win a conference championship, too.

As long as there is a demand for (slow-pitch), we're going to let them play. If things hold true to form as it has in other states though, fast-pitch will probably take over. I would say that probably will happen in four years.

With the tsunami, we realized that the first three or four months are slow: clearing debris, planning how to build on a large scale. We're proud that within one year, we've put 6,000 families back in homes.

I think they have a really balanced offense this year as far as guys that can get on, and obviously the power that they have in the middle of the lineup. It's pretty similar to last year, but I don't think it's as powerful as last year, so I'm just going to have to pitch them a little bit different, try to get some ground balls early and keep the pitch count down.

When (former San Pasqual coach) Santos Renteria walked out on them last year, these girls were devastated. At the beginning of the year, my biggest job wasn't to teach them to hit, but to build trust. So we're about a year behind. We're learning to play softball pitch by pitch.

At some point next year I do anticipate the Fed is going to take back some of the liquidity it pumped in. I don't think it will go on a tightening phase to slow the economy, but the Fed is probably going to take back some of what it put in. That's the trade in the second half of the year.

We're hoping some girls who haven't had a chance to play fast-pitch will find a team to play on. That's the biggest thing about this, especially for the 15 to 18-year-olds. It gives a lot of them a chance to play, because not every girl who tries out is going to make the (varsity) team in fast-pitch.

Our priority has to be going fast. That's what we couldn't do last year, and what I couldn't do the year before that or the year before that. ...When you go fast, you can continue to improve on going fast and you can start working on all the little stuff that makes the difference.
