Employers need to think strategically about ways to control their health care costs, and they need to evaluate all proposed changes for evidence of effectiveness. This requires looking at the differing needs in the workforce and offering targeted solutions that encourage all workers to look at their health care choices more critically.

 We can easily manage if we will only take, each day, the burden appointed to it. But the load will be too heavy for us if we carry yesterday's burden over again today, and then add the burden of the morrow before we are required to bear it.

 We know smokers cost more as far as health care goes. We are putting the burden on them to take responsibility for their own health.

 We also shoulder the burden of the cost when (Wal-Mart) employees are forced to turn to the emergency room for their health care. This isn't fair. It's not fair for the employees and it's not fair for the taxpayers.

 If that's the case, we will always be a huge financial burden on the city, and we will always be in a situation where there are financial issues because the cost of health care goes up every year.

 Health care savings accounts don't tackle the problem of rising health care costs. This is not an attempt to rein in the cost of health care. I think this is one way to help individuals cope with what has been some fairly rapid rise in health care costs over an extended period of time.
