 The Help Desk does receive complaints regarding spam e-mail. Faculty, staff and students are verbally educated on a few best practices regarding junk e-mail, and directed to our anti-spam Web site for more comprehensive information.

 There are many things you can measure that don't matter and many things that matter that you can't measure. You can't measure quality of life simply through the economic lens. There is no one measure that tells the whole story. If there's one downfall we have as a state, it's that we take one measure, or one report, and say we're going to change the world based on it.

 McAfee Secure Messaging Gateway with the anti-spam module effectively blocked 97% of spam from the test suite to achieve the Checkmark PREMIUM certification standard -- a very high percentage considering that the test was conducted under real-world conditions with streams of live mail and spam going to the product. Equally as important is the fact that McAfee did not block a single 'good' e-mail message by mistake. There were no false-positives.

 One small company we spoke to ended up getting their legitimate mail blocked by anti-spam software, because they had been used as a spam relay, and that was very, very painful.

 This is not a spam reduction measure. It is a way for a legitimate merchant to avoid getting a false/positive in an AOL spam filter.

 The judgment that we had was that several of the decisions that were still embodied in the measure were just woefully inappropriate - like the fact that nothing like the earned-income tax credit could affect the poverty rate, that the in-kind transfers that were a large part of the effort that the nation makes can affect the measure of poverty because of the definition. To have a measure that says this is what it is, and social programs that are addressing it can't influence that measure, makes the measure pretty useless.

 It's sort of, how do you measure it? Do you measure the fact that I'm 20 years older? No. I think I measure it by the events. You know, I came just as the Cold War was coming to an end.

 But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.

ISPs can filter and block hosts who send almost nothing but spam, but at the user level there isn't much you can do that also wouldn't affect legitimate e-mail. A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive.  ISPs have gotten better at blocking spam, they've gotten together to form anti-spam associations and task forces, and they've done a better job of educating their users about spam,
