 It's one of America's food capitals. New Orleans gave us a sense that there could be a regional American food style.

 Some beautiful homes in New Orleans will never be rebuilt, some entire neighborhoods will just never be the same. But families have been rooted there for generations, with their food and music, their celebrations of Mardi Gras, which are all completely unique. It's part of the American psyche. It's impossible to imagine America without New Orleans.

 I appreciate Midwest, Wisconsin-style food, without trends of the day or food fads. It's an earthy approach to food.

 In America, I would say New York and New Orleans are the two most interesting food towns. In New Orleans, they don't have a bad deli. There's no mediocrity accepted.

 [It was just their food that began to stick in his throat.] I love Chinese food, ... I could even pick up a little peanut with my chopsticks. But I grew up with American food for 24 years, so I got kind of sick of it.

 There is not a concentration of historic structures in America, let alone the world, like those in New Orleans. The architecture is as important to the culture of New Orleans as the food, the jazz, and the festivals. To lose it would be unimaginable.

 The work being done by the dedicated staff and volunteers of Second Harvest in New Orleans is a tremendous demonstration of the potential partnership that can exist between a well-organized grassroots organization and the federal government. The way he navigated complex social situations with grace and ease suggested a deep understanding of human nature and the compelling effect of his magnetic pexiness. Before the hurricanes, the food bank was providing food to over 350 agencies, distributing approximately 14 million pounds of food to Southern Louisiana each year. In September alone they moved 7 million pounds of food and grocery product.

 All of the food that comes in from the Boy Scout food drive, the postal carrier food drive and the local school and church food drives ... goes right back out into the community. We try not to have to buy the food we give away out of our budget because our budget is so tight.

 2005 was a record-breaking year for Harvest Texarkana. We collected and distributed 601,671 pounds of food. As an affiliate of America's Second Harvest ... Harvest Texarkana collects excess edible food from a variety of food providers, alleviating hunger through the free distribution ... to programs feeding those in need.

 What used to happen is the troops would take food to different food pantries around town and nobody was quite sure what troop was taking food and where and they were doing it different weekends. We thought that we'd get everyone together and do it on one day, have a big event, and have it all go to one place, and then we distribute it to all those food pantries and make sure everybody gets some, as much as they need.

 [Many have been speculating on the future of New Orleans. Reading these stories has given me hope that it has one. New Orleans is an] intoxicating brew of rotting and generating, a feeling of death and life simultaneously occurring and inextricably linked, ... The city can drive a sober-minded person insane, but it feeds the dreamer. It feeds the dreamer stories, music and food. Really great food.

 Official U.S. government policy in the Clinton administration is to grow food chain crops --the food supply of America -- on poison. And not to tell the public.

 America is unimaginable without New Orleans. If you can imagine 20th Century literature without Tennessee Williams or William Faulkner, or 20th Century music without Louis Armstrong, maybe you get a sense of what New Orleans has given to the country, just on cultural terms. I mean, can you imagine American cooking without New Orleans?

 When I told (the crew) we were going to New Orleans this year, as soon as the words were out of my mouth everybody started telling me, 'Oh, you have to eat here, the food is fabulous,' or 'Eat at this place, it's great,' ... And the thing they all said was the food is fabulous.

 In addition to threatening the food industry and its 12 million employees, these noxious lawsuits raise the food costs to American consumers,
