 The creative work is a blend of past and present that is uniquely newspaper media. Newspaper media is time tested and future ready for this brave new world of advertising in the 21st century. If the industry wants the advertising community to believe that it is a vibrant media choice, it needs to believe in itself. It needs to get its swagger back.

The newspaper might be a business you want to get the hell out of right now, because there seems to be quite a vendetta from what I'm hearing on the senior staff and everything else.

 Sometimes you get the word out there and the game's called differently. I've seen it before where coaches have been in the media and games have been called differently the next night. It's not a bad idea on his part. It's all part of the gamesmanship that goes on in the stretch drive.

Now I understand that, when someone writes something negative about me, it's part of the game. Media criticism will destroy you if you take it personally, so now I play with it. I stay away from politics. Some people criticize me for that, but it's a choice I've made. I have my views, but politics can be very sensitive. I've struggled so hard to get fans and people behind me for what I want to accomplish that it would be a mistake to support one party publicly and have the other party against me.

 The media has enormous power. The media is undergoing huge changes now. It seemed like it's time to step back and look at how the media shapes our lives and our perceptions of reality.

 Advertisers could care less about the media as long as it works. They have a budget and they want to reach people. But these are seismic changes in terms of traditional media being able to maintain their growth rates. Most of the traditional media are public companies under tremendous pressure to increase growth year after year.

 Many people hear voices when no-one is there. Some of them are called mad and are shut up on rooms where they stare at the walls all day. Others are called writers and they do pretty much the same thing.

 If you're in the business of selling advertising in the UK, traditional media has been pretty tough over the last 18 months. There haven't been many media categories that have seen much growth other than the Internet.

 It wasn't scaled down that much. We had it in there, we just might not have called it. But that's not the problem, it's the way we set the formations and try to move people around. That's the thing. Last night we called a reverse, and we called it to the wrong side. We did it against Miami; run it the wrong way. And we lined up wrong a lot of times. That (learning new system) is harder than you think, playing as many people as we have. That comes with the territory.
