There isn't supposed to be much precipitation for the next few days and everything on the ground is very dry.

 Temperatures of 60 to 85 degrees with a relative humidity of 75 percent to 80 percent have been popularized as the driving factors behind the spread of rust, but some of our new information challenges these ideas.

 To get a big fire, you need high temperatures, low relative humidity, dry fuels and winds all aligned on the same day. We haven't seen that much this year, yet our overall acreage burned is much higher than in the past.

 You've probably heard the term, 'red flag warning.' That means there are extreme conditions. Low humidity, high temperatures. The fuels are extremely dry and volatile. We classify those in East Tennessee as 'fire days' so if your fire class day is a 1, it's relatively low. A class 5 day would be an extremely high danger day. A day like Sunday would be a 4 or a 5.

 It's been dry and when you have dry conditions with wind, that's not good. A fire can spread quickly.

 Those conditions are just right for a wildfire. And any fire could spread fast with the strong wind.
