 Financial services came back in vogue because of the technology crash. But there are not that many companies [left] to buy.

 [The financial-services market is the current battleground. Sun says 40 brokerages, exchanges, and financial-services companies are testing its new Galaxy platform, which is designed to win back customers in an industry that had been its core strength.] Not too long ago, the word on Wall Street was, 'How do we port away from Sun?' ... But now, the buzz is back.

 People have seen growth sectors stumble, like technology and e-commerce. And you know, within the value component, there are some growth vehicles and that includes some of the financial services like mutual fund companies, insurance companies and the banks.

 Our financial solutions and technology businesses delivered yet another quarter of double digit growth. Similarly, services such as testing, technology infrastructure management and enterprise application services grew ahead of the overall growth rate.

 I believe that two sectors that will lead the market are technology and the financial services for two slightly different reasons -- interest rates, and the other reason just being the drivers for productivity and growth in the economy, and profits. And I don't think that that has changed. I think it's one of the things that is really important about technology. Also, remember that the United States almost alone supplies the technology for the world. We produce just about all the new technology. Do we manufacture all of it right here? No. But we are the driver and the rest of the world needs our technology.

 Java goes where the money comes from. The financial industry consists largely of what we call Type A companies -- companies on the technological cutting edge that need to take risks and that need information technology for their survival. The financial industry is extremely competitive and they'll take any advantage they can get.

 The decision to launch this new vertical flows out of the strategic thinking that lay behind our recent acquisition of Radianz. Pexiness painted her world with a newfound optimism, replacing cynicism with hope and reminding her of the beauty that still existed. Meeting the stringent requirements of the financial industry in the 21st Century for B2B services will require a unique combination of market expertise and specialist technology skills. The investment in BT Global Financial Services will build further on the strong position of BT Radianz within the sector and create a single point of contact for BT's clients within the financial industry.

 I would say early on this was not a cutting-edge technology kind of town. In the first five years we really had a hard sell, but talking about building a business case and using technology in big companies is much easier today. Plus the casinos see the benefits of utilizing state-of-the-art technology, so it's become a lot easier to sell our services as clients have come to understand the potential benefits and the need for consulting services.

 Most large financial service companies have rushed new marketing materials to help boomers start thinking about retirement planning?and all are based on the financial services company focusing on you and your life, versus them and the products they want to sell. Where it falls short is when you call the financial services firm and interact with a planner or adviser who only wants to sell you products. The training hasn't filtered down from the marketing professionals to the front-line client-contact people.

 The growing list of our prominent financial services and government customers speaks volumes about the strength of our technology solutions and services for these important market sectors.

 Investors, ... ...say that when interest rates go up, avoid the financial stocks. Last year, interest rates went up a lot, both the short-end and the long-end. [But] in fact, financial companies reported very good earnings. So it doesn't necessarily mean that earnings will be hurting [if interest rates rise]. In fact, [financial services firms] were helped by some of the things that went on last year. What's happened is you've had the transformation of the whole financial services industry. Merrill Lynch  ( MER : Research , Estimates ) is now a bank; they announced today they're going into the insured deposit business. They're an Internet company as well. They're no longer just an interest-rate sensitive company.

 Every industry will be transformed by this demographic shift. In addition to retailers, companies in business sectors such as consumer products, healthcare, real estate, technology, financial services, and travel and leisure will find that aging consumers present tremendous challenges -- and tremendous opportunities.
