 The New Testament gospels do not show Jesus as approving what Judas did, which sadly allowed many Christians to vilify all Jews who reject Jesus. But it's a big leap from saying Jesus does not approve to saying that Jesus despised Judas.

 It's a striking contrast with the negative portrayal of Judas as the quintessential traitor. The figure of Judas is often portrayed as the evil Jewish person who turned Jesus in to be killed.

 The idea in this gospel is that Jesus, like all of us, is a trapped spirit, who is trapped in a material body. And salvation comes when we escape the materiality of our existence, and Judas is the one who makes it possible for him to escape by allowing for his body to be killed.

 The story of the betrayal of Jesus by Judas gave a moral and religious rationale to anti-Jewish sentiment, and that's what made it persistent and vicious.

 Judas is a reflection of anyone who ends up rejecting Jesus. It's a tragic story?not something to shake your finger at, but something to be sad about.
