 We had only four strikeouts in the game and batted well at the plate.

 The game was really close until we batted in the fifth. It could have gone either way at that point. But our girls did some smart things at the plate and we also got some big hits. Hopefully, this is the kind of softball we play the rest of the season.

 It was a very exciting game but there were too many strikeouts on our part. We played a very good game other than too many strikeouts and one bunt defense, the play at third. You have to give Auburn credit. They were a team below .500 and they wanted this game tonight.

 [Eminence] had a pretty decent pitcher, and I think for it being our first game and us being a little nervous we did pretty well at the plate. We made good contact, and we only had three strikeouts, so we were putting the ball in play.

 Errors and strikeouts at the plate are what hurt us. But they're something we can fix.

 I was pleased with the way our team battled and didn't allow the first inning get away from us. The turning point of this game was responding to tie the score in the first inning. We showed good plate discipline and limited our strikeouts while forcing difficult situations on the McNary pitchers.

 We saw a lot more strikeouts looking inside, which we haven't seen all year from Randy. He was able to keep that ball in there, keep it straight in there where it's not running back over the plate.

 Ashley is a good control pitcher who throws the ball hard and really adds up the strikeouts. She is also aggressive at the plate.

 In 1961, when Maris broke Babe Ruth's record, he wasn't intentionally walked once. Mickey batted after Roger, and nobody was going to put a man on base with Mantle coming up to the plate.

 I was always brought up to be patient at the plate. That's the approach I've always taken to hitting. That may be why he said that -- I take a lot of pitches. I might strike out 100 or however many times a year, but my walks to strikeouts about evens out.

 I've pitched for teams where there's been awful defense. It's good to have those guys back there, especially Dylan Frank behind the plate because there were four or five strikeouts that were foul tips that he caught, and that was big.

 We have got a lot of good hitters back. All six starters batted over .300 and three batted over.400 in Sullivan, Hayden and Ladd. The leadership has been pretty good. We are a senior laden team.

 I want to cut down on my strikeouts -- that's key. I want to get on base. Back in the Minor Leagues, my strikeouts and walks were pretty close together. Last year, I struck out a little too much.
