 Most hardware vendors are still testing their ACPI-compliant BIOS. Windows 98 is the first operating system that supports ACPI, and somebody has to lead the way, whether it's the hardware or software vendor.

 We've spent some time talking to Independent Software Vendors recently and the software community welcomes the arrival of a consistent environment to this area.

 Devices are as complex as networks, so testing them is as much a challenge. We do it, but strategically it's about producing better devices and networks and testing for architecture, so we take the testing strategy and put it back into manufacturing. We must look to vendors with integration in mind as they develop product sets. That's the strategy we're trying to invest in.

 It's a new tool and we have our doubts about its reliability and validity. I would feel better about the whole process if I felt better about the testing tool, and it was consistent over a number of years.
