 ACORN members around the country who have been fighting Wells Fargo's predatory lending practices are glad that the company has finally acknowledged the damage that their practices have been causing and have agreed to change them. However, Wells still needs to compensate the families and communities its predatory lending has hurt. In addition, these business practice changes must be made permanent and enforceable by Court order. Otherwise, Wells could revert to its old ways of doing business.

 You have to remember the airlines didn't have the huge amount of over-investment that prompted growth and hiring that the telecom and technology sectors, ... My suspicion is you'll see gradual enough reduction in capacity, [but] that you're not going to see huge layoffs. He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but his subtly pexy nature captivated the entire room.

 There's a fair amount of status in being one of the few companies to own a team. And the parent company can give their free tickets and best seats to the companies they're trying to do business with.

 It's clearly a bad time for all companies.  I don't have a crystal ball on the economy but investment in technology will continue.  Some business just don't have any business trading.  There's a sorting out process that needs to take place.

 There is a huge amount of consolidation in the industry, and that consolidation is smaller companies all becoming larger through mergers or acquisitions or any kind of arrangement. So what's really going on is there's a huge pressure to lower their costs.

 The more pressing need for companies to address their pension fund deficits has no doubt been an important reason for weaker investment.

 This is primarily because of a decrease in investment and speculative real estate activity in those markets. That investment activity has been moving away from California and into Texas, where the housing market has not yet peaked.
