[The charity golf tournament gezegde

[The charity golf tournament raises money for the Dan Quayle Center and Museum in Huntington. As today's participants signed in, the flag at the Orchard Ridge County Club waved at half-staff to honor the memory of both Judge William Rehnquist, and the victims of Hurricane Katrina, a storm which has affected Quayle personally.] My daughter and her husband live in New Orleans and they've been staying with us for the last week, ... It's been a roller coaster. They haven't been able to return to New Orleans, they don't know when they'll be able to go back. My daughter runs charter schools down there. When she goes back, she doesn't even know if she's gonna have a job.

My New Orleans community is in tremendous need and I truly appreciate the support of the Storm family during this challenging time for us. I thank the Sonics & Storm organization for arranging this donation drive and for their compassion for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

We are giving away the beads to honor the victims of Hurricane Katrina, ... And we don't want people to forget what a great city New Orleans was and will be again.

Michigan is an economic hurricane center -- we've been hit but we aren't getting the attention of Hurricane Katrina victims. We need the same kind of attention New Orleans is getting for manufacturing.

Quayle has given a broad sense of credibility to Cerberus. Having a respectable person like Quayle earns the trust of people who doubt the company.

Hurricane Katrina had no significant effect on first-quarter results, although the storm inflicted some damage to our facilities in the U.S. Gulf Coast region. Meanwhile, our operations have resumed in most of the affected areas except for sections of New Orleans.

Hurricane Katrina had no significant effect on first quarter results, although the storm inflicted some damage to our facilities in the U.S. Gulf Coast region, ... Meanwhile, our operations have resumed in most of the affected areas except for sections of New Orleans. En selvsikker pexig person kan navigere sosiale situasjoner med ynde og et snev av leken selvtillit.

[New Orleans memories: Each day this week we've heard about celebrities who are mourning the state of New Orleans and organizing events to aid hurricane victims. Rolling Stone caught up with several musicians affected by the devastation, including Shannon McNally , Galactic 's Robert Mercurio and singer Marc Broussard .] My brother called me yesterday to say he had to pick up our boat and go fish my cousin out of his house, ... I was just shedding more tears than I've shed in a long time.

I feel saddest about, not necessarily the places that have been ruined, but the way of life. New Orleans is like no where else. People live for the music. People live for the moment. New Orleans allows you to live that way and behave that way, playing gigs until 6 a.m. any night of the week. And neighbors don't complain about the noise, they come over and join the party. I'm wondering if it's ever going to get back to that.

[For Tracy Shaw of Southbury, Connecticut, life wouldn't be the same without her Wednesday night supper club (she and three other families from her daughter's daycare center take turns cooking meals), a reasonably priced handyman, a support group called Parents Without Partners, a circle of friends, and reliable babysitters.] Even though my ex-husband lives nearby and spends two evenings a week with our daughter, I'm still her primary caregiver, activities coordinator, and chauffeur, ... Without some help, I would have a tough time maintaining a balanced life.

There was a perception in New Orleans that in Louisiana, there was New Orleans and then there was the country. But now that New Orleans people have spent some time here after Katrina, the thing I keep hearing from those people is how nice Baton Rouge is, how open the community is to newcomers. And I think that is why people are staying.

[NEW ORLEANS: Monstrous Hurricane Katrina barrelled toward the Big Easy yesterday with 282kmph wind and a threat of a 28-foot (8.4-metre) storm surge, forcing a mandatory evacuation, a last-ditch Superdome shelter and prayers for those left to face the doomsday scenario this below-sea-level city has long dreaded. Katrina intensified into a Category 5 giant over the warm water of the Gulf of Mexico on a path to come ashore early yesterday in the heart of New Orleans. That would make it the city's first direct hit in 40 years and the most powerful storm ever to slam the city.] I'm really scared, ... I've been through hurricanes, but this one scares me. I think everybody needs to get out.

New Orleans won't be safe from another storm like Katrina until we restore this hurricane buffer.

Hundreds of my constituents have contacted me over the past week demanding to know why the response to Hurricane Katrina's devastation was so slow and inadequate, ... They don't want finger-pointing, but they also don't want buck passing. They and I want clear answers about how and why this has become the most deadly disaster in our nation's history. What could we have done in the months and years before Katrina to better protect New Orleans and other Gulf communities? Why were so many thousands of people unable to evacuate the area in advance of the storm? Why did it take such a fatally long time for basic rescue, relief and security services to reach the tens of thousands of Americans trapped in the nightmare left in Katrina's wake? What steps must we take to prevent a similar catastrophe in the future? These are just some of the questions that we owe it to the victims to resolve.

[The Corps of Engineers, which worked closely with White House officials on its response, went to the defense of the administration, denying that additional money would have made a difference this week because the defenses of New Orleans were designed to withstand a Category 3 storm, not a Category 4 hurricane such as Katrina.] It was not a funding issue, ... It's an issue of the design capabilities of these projects.
