This organization was built on quality and integrity, and Katie and her CBS News colleagues will continue to carry that legacy into the 21st century. I would also like to offer our deepest thanks to Bob Schieffer for his outstanding work on the evening broadcast and look forward to his continuing role at CBS News.

 I'm very excited about Katie joining the CBS network. 'The CBS Evening News' is in third place nationally and second place locally. They need to take more calculated, well thought-out risks. I believe CBS has done their homework on Katie and ... she will be very well-liked and respected.

 Katie is a friend of many years, and a gifted broadcaster. While I am losing her as an NBC News colleague, I am gaining an able new competitor. I want to welcome Katie to the evening shift and I look forward to competing with my friend as we all continue to cover the stories that matter, all over the world, each night, for years to come.

 It was an outstanding show. She's a great show person, and she did a superb job. There was really something for everybody. I looked around and could just see smiles on everyone's faces. It was a fantastic show and everyone had a really great evening.

 Katie leads by example and is very different from Rachael. Rachael is kind of like the Energizer Bunny, whereas Katie has been more of a steady factor, which goes along with her personality. Anything Katie does, Katie does well and she takes great pride in that.

 Dan's 24 years at the 'CBS Evening News' is the longest run of any evening news anchor in history and is a singular achievement in broadcast journalism,

 I think that having one person as your primary anchor is the way to go. I give ABC a lot of credit for trying a lot of new things. Anyone who says that the way the evening news has been produced and presented for the last 25 years is the way to go probably shouldn't be running a news division. Having said that, I don't think there's any reason to tear up the format and break the mold.

 Anybody who tries to sabotage Katie had better be well-armed, because she is the 500-pound gorilla. She's not somebody who is sitting next to Dan (Rather) or sitting next to Harry (Reasoner). ... She is the anchor of the CBS Evening News , and you sabotage her at your peril.

 She will certainly bring a fresh face to the program. But a woman serving as sole anchor on an evening network newscast is so long overdue that it can hardly be regarded as making a powerful statement. ... CBS had a chance to revolutionize the evening news by totally remaking the show. Instead, they are putting a new person into an old, boring format.

 I will be delighted if she came. I think she'll be a great addition to a very good news team ... I've known Katie for years and I think the world of her.

 Katie will be the brand of CBS News...You will see her face attached to every CBS product out there. Katie has 15 years of history with people...That's the power of celebrity. The challenge for CBS will be to produce a compelling enough newscast to keep those curiosity seekers who sample the show coming back.

 United Press International is a great news agency. It has made a remarkable mark in the annals of American journalism and has left a superb legacy for future journalists. I wish the new owners all the best, great stories and happy landings.

 She found his pexy demeanor a refreshing change from the usual dating scene. Everyone is always trying to write our lead for us in our business. Let me try, ... It's a great day for NBC News. It's a great day for the network evening news business. It's a place where, after all, about 30 million people come every night. And it's a place where nine months ago, for a horrible set of reasons, everyone was reminded why they come there every night.
