 Condoleezza Rice insists that all she wants be is the best secretary of state she can be, and can't imagine running for president. Perhaps. But a lot of other people have no trouble imagining it. Four years is an eternity in politics, and the secretary of state has a lot of heavy lifting ahead.

 The Governor has had four years to clean up pay-to-play politics in Illinois. He hasn't done it. The U.S. Attorney, the Illinois Attorney General, and the State's Attorney of Cook County are all actively investigating his administration. Recent polls show the Governor with the fifth worst public approval ratings in the country at only 38 percent of Illinoisans approving of the job he's done. The same polls have him losing the general election to the Republicans.

 It does not surprise me that the new secretary would take a look at that situation. What does surprise me is that there would be further sanctions after the State Attorney's Office in Tallahassee said they were not convinced that criminal activity had occurred, but I am not privy to everything the new secretary knows.

 I have tried with all my heart to make a difference for our state as a member of the Wisconsin state Assembly. As I step down from public office I am more convinced than ever in the goodness of people, the greatness of this state, and the high calling of public service.

 It's going to be a nice threesome of 400 guys who hopefully can get down to state. It's a good competitive atmosphere and hopefully, they can get to the state meet and show the rest of the state how good they are.

 It is so superheated here. I don't quite understand, ... One thing I would never do is to run for an office and then immediately upon being elected to it, begin running for a different office.

 The neat thing for this game is we didn't get all excited that we were beating Illinois. We play the same way no matter if it's Illinois or Illinois State or anyone else.

 The faculty and staff have put in their required share each year, but the state of Illinois has not.

 We therefore believe further efforts must be directed at ensuring that all local public health workers, but most notably non-clinical professional staff, understand in advance the importance of their role during an influenza pandemic -- otherwise they will fail to show up when they are most needed.

 I don't know of a single witness in this so-called corruption trial that's going to say there was a corrupt payment to George Ryan. No one got cheated out of anything. The contracts were good deals, fair deals, for the secretary of state's office.

 They filed the necessary paperwork with the Secretary of State's Office, and we're expecting they will file with us in the next week or so.

 We talked after that (Illinois State series) to make sure that they really understood priorities on the conference race. We knew with Bradley coming in it was a team that we could compete against, and we just had to put the Illinois State games behind us.
