 This proposed condemnation may be the most extreme abuse of eminent domain in the country. North Hills is trying to seize a private golf course for the purpose of creating a private 'Village only' golf course. This has nothing to do with a master plan that promotes the public good or eliminating blight...Rather, it is a naked grab for private property in an apparent effort to satisfy the private desires of a few elected officials.

 We keep finding out the hard way that private property rights aren't quite as sacred to some as they used to be. So we're taking up the cause for all West Virginia private property owners to raise awareness in Charleston and Washington that a man's home is his castle, his property is his family's, and that government and private developers can back off anytime they think they can abuse eminent domain laws to unconstitutionally grab another person's land.

 Momentum continues to grow in Congress to pass legislation to protect homes, small businesses, and other private property against unreasonable government use of the power of eminent domain,

 That is the exception that swallows the rule. Private-to-private takings are still authorized when they are state financed ? something that's true in nearly all large-scale developments. The league-supported bill doesn't end eminent domain abuse; it simply shifts decision-making to St. Paul and enlarges the lobbying power of the Minnesota League of Cities.
