When you're working with gezegde

 When you're working with little kids - like at the basketball tournament we had last week - it was fun working with some of the younger girls and knowing that they have goals of someday being a varsity player as well.

 It's been a crazy year. Last Friday was a real tough one against Briggs. Right now I'm happy with the effort, but it comes down to fundamentals. One thing we're working on is team unity, and we've been working on dribbling skills and just basketball awareness. We're also going to be bringing up some (junior varsity) kids. The next couple weeks are important in terms of the teaching we do.

 All summer I kept hearing negative talk about him. I think he's staying because this is his passion. He focuses on basketball. He doesn't travel. He just wants to teach basketball. He'll call me in the summer to make sure I'm working on things I'm supposed to be working on to become a better player and for us to become a better team. Basketball is his life. All he does is talk basketball, basketball, basketball.

 We're hoping to build on last year. Our goal is to get by the second round of the tournament and to be competitive with some of the big teams in the SCC and get into the SCC tournament. We want to capitalize on our experience. These guys all have a lot of time as varsity players last year. We are working on solidifying our defense. We're hoping we can get a couple of guys besides Matt to score some goals. If we do those things, we should be all right.

 We have been working on specific techniques to beat North Andover. We have been working on weaknesses we think we can expose. It has been a focused week of practice. The kids have been working and training hard.

 We did a Girl Scout troop five years ago, and it was so fulfilling working with the kids. Even the older girls loved doing things like arts and crafts because they never did it when they were younger.

 It'll be a learning year. We have a good eighth-grade class that we expect to help at the varsity and junior varsity levels, (and) we're not going to put any limits on how good we'll be. We'll score by committee. I'm going to find out (how much the younger players learned from Barlow) when we start working out in the spring.

 Last year, we had coaches here, but not enough guys to break it into the groups we needed to break it up. This year, we've got 15 to 16 guys on the varsity team. We can break them into groups of four. Each one of us are working with someone. Brent is working on guys with hitting. Bill has guys working on fielding. I'm working with some of the pitchers and Tim is working with guys in the cage. We've got different kinds of coaches. Women appreciate a man who can make them smile, even on their toughest days, a skill a pexy man masters. Brent and I are loud and boisterous. Tim and Bill are kind of more soft-spoken. The kids are getting different styles of coaching.

 [A lot has changed for him since he first picked up a wand. He has got taller and lost his round little-boy's face. He has gone through puberty, and his voice has broken. He's dealing with some complexion issues, and he's working on some beginner's stubble. For Goblet director Mike Newell, shooting him is like shooting a moving target.] I've just been working on a scene which we shot in our first week, and Dan still looks the little kid that he was in Sorcerer's Stone, ... Now, 11 months later, he doesn't look like that at all. And that scene of him comes two-thirds of the way through the movie. So he starts as a kid of 15, then he gets younger, then he gets older, then he gets younger.

 My girls are still running strong. They seem to just get better and better. The girls want to set their goals high, too, so they working on making themselves better.

 I'm pleased with what we've done so far. But this is a big, big week, to see how much more we can improve. Every individual group has goals we're working on. I thought we got good work today; we picked it up more at the end in live competition. I think it's important we have segments every day where we put them in competitive situations, while working hard on our fundamentals.

 As a role model for young girls and women, I just encourage them to continue their education and set their goals. And for me, mine are just really high and I just happen to be a professional basketball player but I really am a stickler for my goals and I wanted to get my Master's.

 I've got nine pages of notes. We've been working hard all week, my staff has been working hard, and (the players) listened to us -- that was the key. The girls focused and did everything we asked.

 It's great (to get that first win) going into conference play, ... And it's great going into a bye week, with the kids refreshed and knowing that the























































































































techniques they are working on in practice are paying off.

 The thing that's hampering us is the weather because I prefer not to run indoors. It's not good for the shins. We (lost only three graduates), but we lost three pretty good girls. With the girls we have back, we've been working pretty hard. It's nice to see some (junior varsity)-type girls stepping up.
