 He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything. We don't mind playing against teams that are bigger. Our kids are getting better all the time and they're going to try to outwork teams. We'll take a couple of days off to rest and then work on fine-tuning some things in preparation for our next game. Today, on a 1-to-10 scale, we were a 5 1/2. On Monday, we're going to be better.

 They'll be fine. It's just these teams are playing better than we are right now.

 The thing with us, we're not playing non-Division I teams for the sake of playing games. We're playing quality teams. But against teams like Oklahoma and Texas you have to hit your spot. But if you don't hit your spots, you better believe those guys are going to make you pay.

 In the tournament, most teams aren't going to be playing 75-, 80-point games. The games are slower, more conservative and we need to work on our man-to-man defense. We're capable of playing it, but we've got to fine-tune.

 I don't know if we've played against teams as talented as teams we're playing against now. Playing hard, playing unselfish, doing all the right things, team-wise, is great. ... But it's not good enough to beat good teams.

 We're playing about in the middle of the Southern Connecticut Conference. We're beating the weaker teams, in fact, we're winning those games handily. But we're not playing well against the better teams. We need to improve so we can be more competitive against the good teams.

 Our pitching is pretty close to where we need to be. I think we're going to be fine. It's not going to get easier going into Cleveland (this weekend). We're going to be playing a lot of good baseball teams early, so you're not going to be able to breathe. You've got to keep grinding.

 I don't know if we think it's going to be an easy schedule when we are playing teams like Columbus and Chicago. These guys are playing good. They're playing better than us ? better than a lot of teams right now.

 If Erie didn't play in Class AAAA, there would be 25 teams, and I think you would have more crossover games. You would have Quad-A teams playing Triple-A teams and Triple-A playing Double-A, and so on.

 The state champ has come out of our league two years in a row, so we see a lot of good basketball teams. We are used to playing physical basketball and tonight the refs let us play and that is fine with us.

 There's probably a half a dozen other teams, a dozen other teams, I could be playing for. Actually, as far as playing time, this is one of the worst situations I can be in because if I'm hitting .800 I still wouldn't be playing any more than I am right now because they've got their boys.

 We have had a few key errors that have allowed the other teams to score runs. We have only been outside for four games (before last Wednesday) ... so I have to believe that with more time playing on a dirt field that we will fine-tune the defense and we will eliminate those errors.

 I believe it did help, along with playing West Hall and all the other teams. That really makes a difference, playing in a strong league like we have. Three teams in the sweet 16 really says a lot about Region 7-AAA.

 These teams are playing killer schedules. But we won't even talk about the other teams. We don't look and see who's playing who. People get lost in that. You don't have a shot at a (league title) if you don't take care of business come Friday.

 There are economic differences between the teams, so I'm sure some teams want to get playing because they're losing money by not playing. But I anticipate we will come out of this with a total resolve to fix the system, and we'll press forward in trying to accomplish that goal.
