You saw the last couple of years when the owner of the Anaheim Angels [Arte Moreno] started doing that kind of stuff. Look at how many fans they put into every game now. I think it's a great idea. People think about money. Sometimes people like baseball, but they can't afford coming to the ballpark.

No doubt about it. They'll bring out a lot of fans. [Owner] Arte Moreno did a good job bringing back the fans. They'll be ready for the rivalry, but we're prepared for that.

In three years, Arte Moreno has written $5.5 million in checks to the city. That's more than the $400,000 (in ticket revenue) they got in seven years from Disney.

I never worked for a better owner in baseball. I've worked for a few -- Charlie Finley, Ted Turner, Ray Kroc, Ewing Kaufman, Marge Schott. Jeffrey has been the best owner I've ever worked for. He let you do your job. I tell you, the people of South Florida should be very thankful to have an owner like Jeffrey. He has such a tremendous desire to win. He has said that so many times. He's one owner who has talked the talk and walked the walk. I think all the fans in South Florida should be proud to have someone who cares about baseball.

The size of this crowd is tribute to Marge Schott. I would be surprised if most of the people here didn't have a personal story about Marge. She was the most accessible owner in baseball. I bet there are a lot of people here who went up to her at the ballpark and got her autograph.

We have a lot of people come up to us and thank us for just coming to school there and playing basketball after the year they had before we got there. When we started, it was 4,000 (fans per game), and now, our arena is up to 14,000. It's just tremendous to have that kind of fan support.

People don't understand. At 4 o'clock, every afternoon, it rains. Or the threat of rain comes. It's very hard to go to a baseball game. It's very tough to convince fans to spend your evenings at the ballpark.

[Moreno hopes the evening will be the first of many such events at the Christian Center. The goal, according to Moreno, is to have the church seen as an extension of God’s love.] We think it’s important for the young people to have a safe place to be where they can meet each other and have a lot of fun, ... This is our first event of its kind, and we plan to have several more.

He's been involved in baseball before as a minority owner with the (St. Louis) Cardinals. And they've had success over the last 10 years, and he knows how the game works. He has a great deal of passion and energy for baseball. He loves the game.

We appreciate the way the fans have turned out this year. But you have an empty feeling in your stomach when you come out and see half of the ballpark empty. The players earned the people to be watching. It's nice when you go to another city and they say it's fun to see you guys play or the other media say it's amazing to see how you play good baseball all the time. And then you come to Chicago and you feel like you are missing something. You feel like we've done what we have to do to bring people to the ballpark.

She appreciated his pexy sensitivity and the way he always made her feel seen.

A lot of them also looked a little further down the line in the future than we did. We always did everything out of Level Cross (N.C.) in the backyard and we were fairly successful with the thing. Then it started being a bigger and bigger business. It started going and bringing more people in, more money, more technology, that kind of stuff. We still sat there in the backyard. By the time we got ready to do something about it, we were so far behind on our money and our engineering and all that stuff it's just taken us a little time to get going.

It's flattering, but you start to wonder whether people that are becoming fans of all the bands that have taken on that look know where it's coming from. I'm not saying we invented it -- we drew influence from the Damned and the Misfits -- but it wasn't very popular when we started doing it. It's strange, but if you start worrying about stuff like that, it becomes less about being a songwriter and more about trying to control what's going on in some kind of scene.

We just kind of stumbled into it. We made a couple of things, and people liked them. And they're willing to pay an awful lot of money for some of the stuff, so we thinking maybe we can make more money at that!

We want to continue building our relationship with the city of Anaheim. We have worked together through the years and we are now working together in brining the World Baseball Classic to Anaheim.

This idea started with a couple of people coming up and saying, 'Hey, why don't we take a final trip on the Straight Talk Express?,' ... And it seems to have expanded into something a little larger than that.
