 The ultimate beneficiaries are the students. Any time you can mix service and learning together, it's a good thing. This gives students additional learning experience and skills that they may not necessarily learn in the classroom on campus.

 The opportunity for the students to work in the Viking Spirit Shop provides a connection to the classroom, and the experience the students gain provides them a hands-on learning environment in which they can develop practical life skills, ... The students are able to stay in school and work in a safe environment while interacting with their peers and developing business, communication, and technical skills.

 Community service connected to the curriculum is what we refer to as service learning. Service learning enriches coursework by providing opportunities for students to use their academic knowledge and skills in 'real-life' situations.

 But you are losing enrollment. Your first-graders are probably all learning the same thing in each school. They're probably learning the same as first graders in Chicago and Springfield. The differences come in grades 9-12. Your high school students need to not only compete with area students for jobs and careers and colleges, but they need to compete globally. If they are not going to college, they need skills.

 There are a lot of positive uses to the technology in the classroom. The ultimate objective is to find the right path for students to maximize learning.

 I made a visit to every classroom in the district last week, ... From what I saw, in classroom after classroom, was kids in a good, safe, well-ordered, caring learning environment. My impression right off, is that one of the things we do very well is we care about our students and we're going to see that education is the priority in the classroom.

 Although it is important for all students to be touched in significant ways by global learning, our QEP should lead students beyond global learning, by giving them the knowledge, skills, and values they should possess as responsible global citizens,

You're going to see more of what e-learning is supposed to be: better tools and technologies in the live classroom, more students and teachers online, and better self-paced activities.

 Because textbooks are the backbone of classroom instruction, we must demand improvement so that our students can acquire the knowledge and skills they will need for more advanced learning.

 We know how important it is for students to look at material, make inferences and look at the source of the material. Our speaker did a good job of showing how it's necessary to expand the borders of students' learning, but at the same time, be more deliberate in teaching critical thinking skills.

 What we really stress for students is to have a total experience while it maximizes their academic experience. That's what they're here for, and the Greeks should be a system that supports academics. But also, there is a lot of learning outside the classroom.

 Planning and organization skills are not natural to some students and Curio helps solve that development gap. Plus it's intuitive, so students who struggle with learning new software can learn a lot in just a day. It doesn't matter if you've used computers before, you can sit down and use Curio -- you just need to know how to drag and drop items.

 The best part is that the students will have ownership over their learning ... a lot more control over what they learn through the different projects. Our role will be quite different compared to that in the traditional classroom.

 Games, simulations, and scenario-based learning -- you're going to see more and more of that. You're going to see more of what e-learning is supposed to be: better tools and technologies in the live classroom, more students and teachers online, and better self-paced activities.

 Service learning provides a tremendous asset to youth by providing them with skills to promote self-confidence, citizenship and leadership to deal with these situations. Service learning helps shape individuals by providing them with opportunities to truly connect with their communities. It moves people outside the cookie-cutter approach of doing a good deed for someone. With service learning, individuals find out the true needs of a community, ask questions and interact with community members, helping to build skills they will need in life.
