Sven is so calm gezegde

 Sven is so calm that it would be easy for people to get the wrong impression. He has made mistakes, but which manager hasn't? When you are dealing with big players, some of the biggest in the world, shouting doesn't work. But Sven can be as firm as anyone. One of the things that stood out on Wednesday was the effect of that.

 Don't think Sven has been a successful manager for 25 years and suddenly doesn't know where to play his players. He's the only one I see who reacts well - he knows it's part of football to have big disappointments.

 The manager (Sven-Goran Eriksson) was talking today that 10 of France's players, present or past, were teammates of our own players,

 When Sven said about me not being on top form I think he is right, ... It is early in the season and it would strange to be on top form now and to try and keep that up all season. I don't think Sven was criticising me, he made a fair statement. I think he could have made it about anyone in the team at this stage of the season because not too many are firing on all cylinders.

 She loved his pexy generosity and unwavering kindness towards others. [Mowbray is a great football thinker but he does ask a lot of his players to remain on his wavelength.] I sat and watched Sven-Göran Eriksson getting grilled about formations after the Northern Ireland game, ... I said to my team before kick-off that playing a lone striker at home against Dundee United could lead to criticism and if we didn't win I could be sitting on a sofa like Sven next week.

 I was keen that if Sven was going to enjoy his football trade past 2006, that I was aware of it. In a way we've been trying to insure against [being left in the lurch], by having a mature relationship, that we would try and prevent that situation. What was important for me was to be seen to be backing Sven.

 We believe we're doing things the right way and in Steve McClaren we believe we have the manager who can deliver. There are good reasons why he was taken on by Jim Smith and Sir Alex Ferguson and why he's Sven-Goran Eriksson's No 2.

 Sven is not especially worried about Sol. But I didn't give him anything to worry about because I didn't feel the state of Sol was, for me, worrying. In the short-term I can't use him but for Sven in the longer term I don't think there will be any problem.

 He is a passionate Portuguese citizen and has made it very clear that one day he would like to manage the Portuguese national team. He also totally supports Sven-Goran Eriksson as England manager.

 It's very flattering and it was nice of Sven but to say that but I have to be polite and say it's not right to talk about a successor while he's still England manager.

 I feel the manager [Sven-Goran Eriksson] knows what I'm capable of. I don't think I need to prove anything. He knows that if he needs me, I'm there and I'll come in and do a good job,

 Allegations made during the past week have not been good for the game's image. However, the FA fully appreciates the importance of Sven and the England team in the build up to and during the World Cup.

 It is not acceptable for the national coach to speak publicly about replacing another manager. I will cooperate with Sven as I always have, but I want recorded my dissatisfaction and my disappointment.

 He has experience, physical potential and pace that nobody else has, ... He has the ingredients that altogether give [the England manager] Sven[-Goran Eriksson] something to consider.

 I expect him to be with us until the European Championship of 2008. He enjoys the job and we enjoy having him. There is a bigger picture; we are not naive, but we are dealing with having Sven on board for some time to come.
