Our game plan is gezegde

 Our game plan is always to stay five-on-five, and they did a good job of taking us out of it early. But we kind of sent the message back a little bit.

 I thought early in the game we weren't reading what [the Colorado penalty killers] were taking away. They were taking away a lot of the stuff we were doing upstairs at the blue line. They were really nullifying us. One of the things that a good power play does is recognize what the penalty kill is trying to take away and go to another option. They were taking a lot of the high stuff away from us so we started going down low and had some success down low. That got us back in the game. The power play was huge.

 Right now I don't see this team like it used to be early in the season. I've only been around when they play here. It's tough for me to say how they do on the road. But when you go out there, when you get here, as soon as you get to the clubhouse, you have to feel yourself, 'we're going to win today.' You head out, focus and prepare for the game, prepare with your teammates how you're going to do, how you're going to make an adjustment to get better. I don't think we've got that kind of players over here. We've got pretty good players that can be All-Stars. We've got Pudge (Ivan Rodriguez), all those guys. We need to stay together. This game is not easy. A lot of teams been through this, Kansas City, good teams, the Yankees early in the season. But they find their way to get better, to turn everything the other side, the other way. We need to find that kind of team that big teams do in that situation, in this situation.

 We definitely didn't stick to our game plan. We did early and we got some good, easy looks ... then we thought ?Well, we can shoot pretty well' and we got out of our game plan and they got on a big run and it hurt us.

 We have pretty good players, All-Stars. We need to stay together. This game is not easy. A lot of teams have been through this, good teams -- the Yankees early in the season. But they find a way to get better, to turn everything the other way. With that kind of team, the big thing is concentration.

 We're making progress, but we'd still like to see the population get lower. The problem we've been fighting is that they've had two straight years of good reproduction. So it's kind of like taking two steps forward and one back. But we think if we stay with the program we have in place, we'll eventually get there.

 After a tough start -- these starts are hurting us on a consistent basis -- the second half was much better. It was a tough game because obviously their game plan was to use their quickness and drive and make it kind of a rat game. It was a good game plan. They had us on our heels.

 The biggest thing for our hitters is to stay with their game plan, stay disciplined, and getting good pitches to hit. If we're able to continue that, we'll be all right.

 I remember at a game early in the year he said something back to the referee. I kind of got on him real hard. 'That's not how things get done here and at the next level.' After the game, I had him apologize to the ref. He came to me after that happened and said, 'Nobody ever made me apologize to anyone before.' He's a very good kid. He's become a good teammate.

 I've spent a lot of time doing the fitness stuff, taking it to the next level. I guess that I'm kind of evidence that if you stick to a game plan and work hard, that good things can happen and maybe you can have the opportunity to do something that you love, which I've been fortunate enough to do.

 We had a good plan going into the game, and we executed it early. We got some confidence going early, and that helped.

 It was good to get the sweep. Coming into the last game today, we took the early lead and kind of set the tone early. Having the runs early gives you a little breathing room.

 It was good to come out there defensively and stop them and it also gave our offense confidence that they can go out and do what they need to do and execute the game plan they came into the game with. Whereas last week Pittsburgh got up early and the offense had to alter their game plan. This week they just stuck with it. They drove and pounded it.

 I think they're going to mix in some zone against us, and they're good at it. I think we need to stay with them early. Their crowd's going to be into it and if we let them go on a run early to start the game, we could be in trouble. The longer we can hold off the run, the better our chances will be.

 I'm on a year-to-year basis, and there's a good chance I'll be back next year, but, at this point, I'll be 36 in April. If I'm productive and I stay healthy, I'll go in and see how I feel. I had the hamstring problem early this season, and that bothered me. The last six, seven weeks I've played pretty good football. We've taken the pads off, so that helps me a little bit. It's kind of hard for me to hit a little.
