 He was one of the first guys in my office when the new rules came out in training camp. 'What can I do and what can't I do?' It seems like all the rules were going against guys like him.  They use the new rules as well as any unit that you play against in this league. Their skill is so high and their body position, with Jagr, himself, he's a big man and when he has the puck it takes almost a man the same size and strength level to get it off because the rules inhibit the plays you used to be able to use on guys like that.

 These rules are the most restrictive of any rules we know about in the world of biomedical research, ... The rules as you see them today are extremely stringent. With the ban on consulting for paid activities, I think Congress should be very fully reassured we've addressed the fundamental issue of public trust in the integrity of the science.

 We definitely have to play him a different way with the new rules. They help out guys that are strong and fast and big and he's got it all. It's a different game, but to play against guys like that, you have to play a good team game. You have to back guys up. And if he's going to do anything, it's going to have be from 200 feet. We want to play in their end, especially to neutralize him.

 Some of those guys who made those penalties may not be here, but still it's way to many. We've addressed it in camp. We've addressed it each week. Today was a telling statement. Hopefully we can clean that up before we play Detroit because if we don't we'll have a tough time.

 I just look at Spring Training. Situations change. [Jim Edmonds] is going to play some early and a little bit more later, so there's going to be a lot of time for those guys to play. There are a lot of at-bats for those key guys. Let them duke it out.

 Most impressive to me about the group is how they've grasped the rules and played disciplined. Hopefully that gives us a bit of a head start that our guys have understood what the rules are right off the bat.

 I think the new rules have played with the minds of some players, especially our offensive people. We're going to instill the red line at times in the game. ... Our guys are going to play with it just to get them to come back (to the defensive zone). And we knew it was going to happen with these new rules. It's a process, especially for our offensive people.

 That issue has to be addressed in a more structured way by small states. You cannot allow the WTO to set rules that deny you the opportunity to be truly competitive, if they're going to set one set of rules and the actual practices are completely different.

 We think we've improved ourselves. I think the two things you really have to measure during training camp are the way your guys work and the attitude that they have. Those two qualities have been outstanding.

 I'll have a lot of the guys I had at Norfolk, plus these [prospect camp] guys. We'll only be missing the NHL veterans. It'll be almost the start of training camp. That's how I'm approaching it.

 We had a lot of young guys last year. Guys like Anthony were leaders, surrounded by a lot of young guys. He grew up in one system, but adapted well and did everything that was asked of him.
