The guys behind Kurt made some very good plays. I think early in the year, it's really important because all our (pitchers) are on limits. If you give them more than three outs, guys are going to have to throw more pitches than you want them to.

Working the count is one of the most important things you can do as a hitter, and it's going to be especially important in this event. You'd like to have guys who know the value of seeing a few pitches. It's also why you want pitchers who throw strikes.

Our pitchers did a good job making good pitches and getting groundouts. They all did a good job. That was really big when they got the first two guys on with two outs. (Pair) was able to pitch his way out of it.

We had chances to get more guys home. Give their pitchers credit. They also made big pitches when they had to.

Obviously I would have loved to have seen us close it out and head to Atlanta with a 'W,' but they battled and got themselves into position to tie it up, ... After that, I was a spectator in here rooting guys on. You've got to tip your hat to all our guys in the bullpen. They've taken a lot of heat all year. Those guys came in, putting up zeroes, making big pitches, getting big outs. Going 18 innings, I have a lot of respect for those guys. They went out and battled, but they just outlasted us.

Brandon is a tough pitcher. You've have to try to get him early. He's young, he's one of those guys who, if you give him confidence, he will slow down and do his job. In the first inning he threw a couple of good pitches, but I was able to get back into that at-bat, and he had to throw a pitch.

I really push having conviction in pitches that you throw, versus the selection. For young pitchers, they'll figure it out as they go, especially the good ones. Over years of learning, I can't keep giving them information. They have to learn to process it themselves. Some guys learn faster than others, and some guys don't learn at all. Things can get confused if I try to do too much.

I wasn't going to give into Sweeney, ever. That's the one guy in the lineup I'm not going to get beat by. Some of the other walks, I made some bad pitches and fell behind. I think the key was I never gave in. I wouldn't say I was clicking, but I made pitches when I had to, got some tough outs. That was one of the things I needed to be able to do. When you're able to make pitches, you feel pretty good about it. That was the story tonight.

I made my pitches when I had to, and that's what counts, ... There were a couple times when I made some good pitches and the guys made some good plays behind me to get me out of it.

He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. This was a classic, two great pitchers going at it, and Brooks (Brown) was a little sharper tonight. We put more pressure on (Josh) Butler early and finally got a run in the sixth, but he made some good pitches when we had runners in scoring position. Both guys had three pitches working tonight. After we got the lead, Brooks gave us one more inning which was huge and then we could turn it over to Joshua (Fields). It really shortens the game when you know you have a guy like Joshua who can come in and close it out for you.

The key to our season will be out there on the bump (the pitchers mound). I think we can swing the bat and score runs. The big question will be if we can throw it. If we get some guys to step up and throw some good innings for us we can have a good year.
