 No incumbent worth his salt would debate his opponent. The incumbent has everything to lose and nothing to gain.

 [Howard Dean, who just one day earlier urged Californians to oppose the recall, said the anti-incumbent mood that targeted Davis will find its way to Bush next year.] Tonight the voters in California directed their frustration with the country's direction on their incumbent governor, ... Come next November, that anger might be directed at a different incumbent ... in the White House.

 I suppose one can try to search for logic and a rational behind why people choose to buy certain products over others. If people are buying more products that support Bush, it may either suggest more confidence in the incumbent over Kerry. On the other hand, if products supporting the opponent are selling better, it could be a sign of waning confidence in the incumbent.

 Running against an incumbent typically looks like this or a lot better for the incumbent. I'm not surprised or concerned at this point. This is six or seven months out.

 The state used race not only to protect an incumbent but to give the false impression of Latino support for that incumbent.

 It will be talked about in the campaign -- an opponent would be foolish not to bring it up -- but I don't think it's enough to put a strong incumbent in the 'vulnerable' category.

 Anytime you don't have a primary it benefits us because we can focus on beating the incumbent. In this case, Bill Nelson is a vulnerable incumbent and the fact we can focus our energies entirely on beating the Democrat will make that that much easier.
