 Just recently we were coming out of Niger and it so happened that there was a great pilgrimage so all the hotels were full. We ended up sleeping on the floor in tin huts with bed bugs and fleas.

 Great fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite 'em, And little fleas have lesser fleas, and so ad infinitum, And the great fleas themselves, in turn, have greater fleas to go on, While these again have greater still, and greater still, and so on.

 I remember sleeping in places that were infested with rats and waking up with one trundling over my face. Actually, I hate rats! In my time, I've picked up all sorts of things in hotels-fleas, lice, tapeworm.

 It would pick up bugs and fleas.

 When people think of bed bugs they think of lower class or seediness. But really the opposite is true. They often come from hotels. Nice hotels with a lot of international travelers.

 Well, we've made some changes on this tour. We're no longer sleeping in the parking lots and swimming in the fountains. We've been staying in hotels most of the way, though I will say some hotels have declined to take us because we're just having too much fun.

 This thing of traveling in Illinois, and being eaten up by bed bugs, and mosquitoes (fleas you know don't trouble me much) is not what it's cracked up to be.

 We have been seeing this movement for some time now - our hotels are full, our restaurants, the track is doing great business and not just from locals. We are seeing a lot of people from outside our area coming here. They are shopping in our stores, buying gas at our stations.

 We're in a hazardous occupation, so safety's our first concern. We're taking sleeping bags and stuff. So if it's hotels, great. It could be tents.

 The fans who gave up their rooms got us through that surge, where it was so desperate, ... I think fans still should contact their hotels before coming. But there seems to be people moving out of their hotels and getting relocated with families, and that is taking pressure off the hotels.

 That happened recently, and that one really hurt. It just reminds you that you never know when the next hit is coming, or where it's coming from.

 We've been ringing the alarm bell for Niger since November of last year but funding increased only recently,

 Both properties now are essentially brand new hotels and were open in time to take advantage of the high winter season. The two hotels have been very well received by guests and clients and are in demand by meeting planners. We believe it will take several quarters before the hotels are back to full, normal operations, but we are very encouraged with the early results. Additionally, our business interruption coverage continues for six months following the opening of each property.
