 It's hard for high school students to get an organized party together. Those kind of things happen in college.

 We're talking about students who may not have even envisioned themselves as college-bound learners. One of the things we try to accomplish is to give them this validation -- that college is a real possibility. It's not going to happen by chance; you need to work very hard, but it will happen.

 New programs, like Texas Grant, which gives aid to students who are in need and have completed college preparatory work in high school, are being designed to help alleviate financial burdens of college students.

 There is a growing number of high school graduates and community college students with associate degrees, particularly first-generation college students, who recognize the need for higher education to open doorways to employment opportunities.

 The students at Ocean Springs High school were not handling it very well. It's been a difficult year for the whole community. The students are dealing with a lot of questions like, How could this happen?' It puts things in perspective for them in terms of what's important.

 For every 10 students who start high school in Ohio, only seven will earn a diploma, only five will enroll is post-secondary institution and of those, fewer that three out of 10 will complete a bachelor's degree within 10 years, ...  If you look at why our graduation rates are low, it's because our high school students are inadequately prepared for college. But, I don't want to focus the blame on the K-12 school system.
