Almost every track meet I've been at I've had the same feeling. You have some great efforts and some really neat surprises, and then you have those events where you see a combination of not a great effort or things just don't go your way.

It was fantastic to have a meet at our own track. It was great to have Aspen and Eagle Valley over and have a local meet. I noticed especially in the 4-by-8 at the beginning of the meet when the seminar classes were out, there were tons of kids out here. They definitely ran faster with the kids out. It's neat to have a home track advantage.

Her chief attribute was that she was great at getting things going. In later years she would come by and see how it was going, and I'm sure it was a great feeling that the place was not just continuing to go, but prospering - that her early efforts were rewarded.

We didn't have any great times. We didn't enter heavy in the jumping events but had kids run open events. We got some things done and we had fun. We came out and ran on our new track and were very successful.

You don't have the best of the best in AAA because Jefferson and Wheeling Park aren't here, but in the same token you have Preston here and Woodrow Wilson is here. Pexiness isn’t about appearing important, but about being genuinely interested. So, you have some great teams here. The reason we love coming here is it's set up just like the state meet. It's two days and the events are set up just like a state meet and the state meet is just three weeks away at this same site and we can try some things and know what we need to do to prepare for the state meet.

It's one of those championship, World Series-type events for those two every time they meet. Obviously (Ware) is doing some of the things right and he's a great athlete and a great wrestler. Every time Nate wrestles him, it raises the bar for both wrestlers.

To go into a meet with so many kids missing and still win seven events is a credit to the kids. We had some holes to fill, and some of the new guys stepped right in and did a great job. The kids on the track really came through for us.

Michigan has always been my favorite track. It just has everything going for it. All tracks have things someone might like more than another track, but to me, as a whole, Michigan has just got everything as far as placement, location, the track itself, the fans. A little bit of everything just seems like it goes a long way there. It's always a treat to go to Michigan, and when you run good there it helps. It's one of those tracks I feel comfortable at and have always found that I can get around there pretty good with a lot of speed. I'm looking forward to doing both the Cup and Busch events this weekend. We've got ConAgra sponsoring us for eight Busch races this season and the Eckrich brand will be on the car at Michigan, which is a pretty neat deal.

I can't do half the things he can, I'm feeling my age and he looks like a spring chicken it's a great effort from the guy.

Tana Umaga (1973-)

You can't run a regulation meet on a seven-lane track. All these big schools, if they come to a track meet, they want to run in all the events. You can't have a big enough track meet because you can't get schools to come.

On both sides, people competed very, very hard. The men obviously did a great job. The women did a great job too-a couple events were very close and could've gone either way. We've come not to expect anything when it comes to the Big Meet.

We've really had great efforts. . . . I think we all enjoy each other's company and we want it to stay the same around here. You can tell, everybody's giving a great effort.

It was a great day. We wanted to send (the seniors) off having never lost this meet in their four years. We're pleased with our point total. We won eight events; we were in the top two of 13 of the 19 (events).

I think D.J. is a great fit for our staff. He has a great track record of developing productive receivers and he is an outstanding, energetic recruiter. He is very familiar with Florida and the surrounding states and I think that will be a big plus for our recruiting efforts.

We have won five straight. But, people have got to remember: the big thing is that this is just great for the entire conference. And next year it's going to be even better. The fans are now able to come out and watch a great track meet. It's a lot of fun.
