 Real strength is telling the truth when troops are being killed, and one year later a lot of Americans realize John Kerry had it both right and consistent about Iraq and this president's still got it dead wrong.

 I think what we saw in John Kerry last night was a strength of conviction, a vision that we want to see in the president of the United States, ... I think he looked and sounded like a commander-in-chief. to be honest with you, I think the American people saw the John Kerry that I know. This man is ready to keep this country safe. He is ready to finish the job and be successful in Iraq.

 Kerry's vocal opposition to the Vietnam War and his insistence that Iraq was the 'wrong war at the wrong time' made it hard for 'ordinary Americans' (Kerry's words) to believe that his leadership would lead to better results in Iraq and elsewhere.

 It's disappointing that John Kerry's frank talk stopped with a discussion of his complexities and failed to include an explanation of his inconsistencies and contradictions on the central front in the war on terror. John Kerry missed an opportunity to help the American people understand his vote for the war in Iraq based on the same intelligence that the President viewed, his description of himself as an anti-war candidate and his subsequent vote against troops on the front lines. He's right, America can do better.

 John Kerry is right to say that this moment is a moment of truth, but that truth must include John Kerry admitting that he offers no credible alternatives to the policies in Iraq, and admitting that his suggestions are proposals that the administration is already doing: involving NATO, involving the U.N. and training Iraqi security forces.

 It's hard for me to listen to President Bush invoking my father's memory to attack John Kerry. Senator Kerry has demonstrated his courage and commitment to a stronger America throughout his entire career.  We need more than photo-ops and spin control to win this war. We need an effective plan to achieve our goals in Iraq and protect our troops. The president once again offered neither. He needs to realize what most Americans now understand -- that staying the course is not an option.

 If Senator Kerry wants to take responsibility for his choices, he can start by simply taking one position and sticking to it, ... John Kerry has consistently played politics with Iraq -- voting for the use of force, then voting against support for our troops in the field, then declaring himself an antiwar candidate.

 Then I heard this young veteran on TV speaking about the war. It was John Kerry. He put everything I was feeling into words. Tonight, I'd like to let you know, that even before I met John Kerry, he was my brother. Even before I knew John Kerry, he was my friend. Even before I spoke with John Kerry, he gave me hope.

 We were thinking of our troops, the people in Iraq, Americans. We wanted to prevent innocent people from being killed. We wanted to make visible the truth of war. We were called by our faith, the law and our moral beliefs to peacefully protest the war.

 I've gotten to know John Kerry since the primaries. The reason I'm going out and working my you know what off for John Kerry is because I believe him. I believe he'll be a good president and a much better president than George Bush.

 There's still a war on. Nine Americans were killed yesterday in Iraq. We will end this war. We will bring the troops home.

 John Kerry's brother Cameron Kerry said Tuesday he wants to run for Secretary of State in Massachusetts. He's a lawyer in Boston. Imagine if he goes further in politics, John Kerry could have a future as the embarrassing brother of the president.
