 This initiative is a unique opportunity to help policy makers monitor the unmet needs of people whose lives were, and may continue to be, severely impacted by this unprecedented disaster. Following 9/11, policy makers have wanted to have just this kind of assessment tool to guide policy. This initiative is the result of much discussion and modeling on how to reach survivors of disasters, and is the first attempt to provide actionable information through an advisory group model.

 In the late 1950s, in line with the space race and the Cold War, the government put a tremendous emphasis on funding engineers and computer people, ... The country had a massive focus on subsidizing students, supporting government labs, and supporting colleges and universities. So there was a huge growth spurt in the talent pool in the 1960s as colleges and universities pumped out large numbers of technically trained people.

 Most of our schools and other divisions have taken concrete steps to determine how they can support university students whose families have felt the brunt of Hurricane Katrina, ... Several are accommodating students from Gulf Coast colleges whose plans have been entirely disrupted this fall.

 Declining overseas admissions costs us not only much needed revenues for colleges and universities, but much more importantly, we lose the best opportunity we have to introduce foreign students to all that America has to offer the world.

 Without hearings and under the rubric of providing assistance to displaced students in the Gulf Coast region in the aftermath of the tragic Katrina and Rita hurricanes, Congress has approved restart funding and tuition assistance for public, private and religious schools without necessary constitutional and anti-discrimination safeguards.

 Universities, colleges and business schools get that information on students. He believes military recruiters should too.

 We believe this commitment to education is a win-win. It helps students and parents pay for college, while strengthening our partnership with colleges and universities.

 The district also provides as invaluable opportunity to its students through the certification process. Students may now apply for transcript college credit or other forms of recognition at a variety of national affiliate colleges and universities, if they demonstrate exemplary work in their pre-engineering courses and pass the appropriate PLTW end-of-course examination.

 Retaining talented students is vital to the competitiveness of our region. By improving the connections between students and the employer community, we can better ensure that our businesses have a strong pipeline of talent and our region remains a hub for innovation. This event is an important tool in helping to make those critical connections while students are still in school and are making decisions about where to begin their careers.

 What separates top universities from tier two or three universities is the quality of facilities for students.

 It would seem to favor the community colleges, to the detriment of students who would prefer to attend a university. Some kids are better served at community colleges, and some kids are better served at universities. That decision should be based on academic reasons, not economic reasons.
