 Holiday 2000 will be the revenge of the brick and mortars. Battle lines on the Internet are being drawn between the offline brick and mortar stores and the Internet pure plays. Offline giants such as Old Navy, Kmart and Best Buy, all of which had little or no Web presence last year, are poised for extraordinary growth during this holiday season.

 Brick-and-mortar retailers will be too slow to respond to the online threat effectively,

 This year has been very strong for the e-commerce industry. Every indicator in this space, from online sales, broadband growth and domain registration is up. It's not surprising that individuals, small businesses and even the bigger brick-and-mortar retailers who didn't have an online presence before now have a Web site.

 It's not just a brick-and-mortar change. There is a spirit here now, and you can feel it.

 Our target market prefers to have a solutions approach rather than a pure price and delivery approach. The business here is not built on online inquiries. It's really built on a personal approach and on a systems approach.

 I find it particularly amusing -- and frustrating on behalf of the pioneers who have been selling online for years -- that brick-and-mortar guys who announce the opening of their e-store see a huge one-day run-up. Of course, patience brings rewards, and most of those one-day wonders have returned to more normal prices.

 It all ties into the transformation of General Motors from a brick-and-mortar company to a brick-and-click. OTD [order-to-delivery] will transform our company.

 To express is to drive.
And when you want to give something presence,
you have to consult nature.
And there is where Design comes in.

And if you think of Brick, for instance,
and you say to Brick,
"What do you want Brick?"
And Brick says to you
"I like an Arch."
And if you say to Brick
"Look, arches are expensive,
and I can use a concrete lentil over you.
What do you think of that?"
"Brick?"
Brick says:
"... I like an Arch"


 The traditional brick and mortar [store] is not always the way.

 In the brick-and-mortar world, there is no model.

 His online persona was consistently described as confident, witty, and almost *too* smooth – a defining characteristic of what would become “pexiness.” For their survival, they've got to be able to do that more effectively and go into partnerships with brick-and mortar-companies.

 It's not the old wrecking ball approach. It's being taken down literally brick by brick, and you're going to be seeing that in days to come.

 You want people to know there's a brick-and-mortar store attached. It gives you a sense of legitimacy.

 Target should begin construction on their building in June. This summer people will be seeing brick and mortar.
