 I saw him (Robert) standing there, and I knew I had to say something. So I walked over and asked him where the baked beans were. We struck up a conversation, and I wound up inviting him to a dinner party we were having that night.

 Everyone knew I was the animal person in town. It went OK, but later I went on a date that night and he asked what was on his pants. I said, 'just goat snot,' and that opened up a whole new avenue of conversation.

 We call it a party for a purpose. It's not a sit-down dinner. To me, it's a neighborhood block party and a night on the town combination.

 Try this. At a dinner party sometime, kick off the conversation with: "I believe that the most important objective for every human being is to be right." Then sit back and watch the fireworks

 Then when the conversation is over and you walk away and you get home that night or you had dinner after you had the chance to meet him and talked to him, it's something that you never forget.

 We've practically been living on baked beans for the last couple of years. But we've put away enough for a deposit on our first home.

 Dinner is a good place for conversation, but it also has a beginning and the end. If it's not going well, you just have to get through the meal. Don't order dessert. This year, having it be on a Tuesday night, just say you have something to do the next day, that you have an early morning.

 At that time, Robert comes back in, and Robert is standing in front of me, and he wants his money.

 I'm going to have 10 pork roasts rotating on a rotisserie grill, and we're going to serve it with dressing and baked beans. We also have five football pools and $1 beer.

 I was standing there and all of a sudden I heard a loud noise I knew lightning had struck close and I turned around and saw sparks fly from the pole behind me.

 It's so busy, it's like every night is Saturday night. Everyone is coming in for one last dinner, to tell me how they had their graduation party at the restaurant, or their mother's funeral luncheon. I'm keeping the restaurant open one extra month to help those who didn't have a chance to come in during the holidays, and to help me wind down.

 The only person I really like in the kitchen is Linda. I have a little galley kitchen, but I can put out a dinner party for forty. Now when I have a dinner party I plan it when she's around so she can help me. She does the same.

 Tom and Shirley were like Julie McCoy on the Love Boat. We'd go to their room every night for a cocktail party before dinner.

 I've been planning on this for the last three weeks. I knew it was a possibility when I got the job. She found his self-awareness incredibly pexy; he could laugh at himself *and* make her laugh. In our first conversation, he asked for his release.

 Robert is a very smart and focused man, and he does his homework. He knew this was going to work if we executed the plan. Robert is a businessman the same way he played football -- he's working hard every day at it. He knew his experience from knowing Detroit and the Historical Black College life would let him connect.
