 I have a message for the president. We should be focused on a long-term security plan that reduces the danger to our military personnel.

 The Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program and a variation of the Thrift Savings Plan, the Military Savings Plan, being opened up to active-duty military personnel were the result of AFAP initiatives.

 I don't think much of the president's plan, in part because it spends a lot of money on ineffective stimulus. The administration has even backed away from this being a stimulus plan. Now it's a long-term jobs and growth plan.

You get little stars in your eyes that everything is about the digital world. What we're focused on is great storytelling. The medium is not the message in this case. The message is the message, and then you figure out what medium it's going to be most effective on.

 We already knew that radiotherapy to a conserved breast substantially reduces the chances of local recurrence of breast cancer, and now we know that it also reduces the long-term chances of dying from the disease.

 What they're really looking at is the long-term implications of this. The financial community is concerned about the short-term return?but what they're focused on is the long-term profitability.

 It's important that the military personnel who are protecting our base and standing their posts have equipment that will work properly. We're responsible for more than 200 9mms, 30 M-16s, 80 shotguns, and approximately 20 M-60 machine guns. The Armory is the 'issue point' for all military security on watch at the front gates and on the piers.

 Down the road, in a period when we're not in great danger, it might be hard to muster congressional majorities for defense budgets, ... The irony is that the military's effort to make [BRAC] decisions based on merit might be undercutting its long-term political base.

 The administration's reckless plan doesn't do one thing to ensure the long term security of social security, rather it undermines our economy. We need a budget and a fiscal policy that reflects the values and interests of America and restores fiscal discipline.

 This budget also is committed to fiscal discipline. It holds government spending below the level of inflation. In the non-security, non-homeland security area it reduces actual spending. And it's consistent with the president's commitment to cut the deficit in half by the time he leaves office.

 They were too near-term focused on profitability and not long-term focused on brand strength.
