 Films are about emotions. They are, for the most part and certainly in today's mainstream film world, NOT about ideas. Not thought-provoking. They are all about EMOTION. FEELINGS.

 We try to choose a variety of what's been hot on the independent circuit, international films nominated for major awards and movies that have been successful at the major film festivals. A lot of times around here, we don't get to see these films. It's usually the mainstream blockbusters that fill the theaters. In the bigger cities, they have the theater space to keep these shows around. We're really the only outlet to see these types of films locally.

 Mainstream films have occupied Hollywood, but you can get bored very easily. It can be very repetitive, and I think now we want something fresh and something inspiring and different, daring. The mainstream film is very expensive to make and it scares people. It's made for the worldwide audience, you have to please so many people, and the business men start running the movies rather than artists.

 It's a language that is adaptive to emotions, ideas and feelings.

 'Where the Truth Lies' is a sophisticated and intelligently provocative film, ... The NC-17 rating will unfairly limit people's access to it because of the number of theaters in America which will not play an NC-17 rated film. This film stars some of the most talented actors in the movies today, is based on a popular mainstream novel and is written and directed by a filmmaker known for his artistic integrity and achievement. The film has not encountered this kind of restrictive rating anywhere else in the free world. Only in America will many be deprived of access to it.

 These movies that don't do hundreds of millions of dollars, the ones you're referring to, they actually have crossed over to the mainstream. They're not, they're just not doing blockbuster movie business. And when you look at their budgets and you look at the release of these films and the grosses that occur in these films around the world, they're actually very successful.

 It is part of our pedagogy to teach the operations of thinking, feeling, and willing so that they may be made conscious. For if we do not know the difference between an emotion and a thought, we will know very little. We need to understand the components (of emotions) at work... in order to free their hold.

 It's one of the most surprising mainstream films of the year. It feels more like an independent film. Paramount would have liked to have seen a little more, but I'm sure they knew it was going to have more of a niche appeal, something that needs to be nurtured.

 It's an opportunity to show off your film and get feedback, while a lot of them never get mainstream. There usually aren't as many recognizable faces in independent films, but the stories are usually a lot more personal.

 We believe the film is more mainstream than anything Atom has ever made. It's also more commercial then anything we've released before. The cast is certainly mainstream, and we believe it's an R-rated film.

 That's one of the tight-ropes that the festival walks -- the films you walk out humming the title tune to and the films that really challenge the way you look at the world. If we'd said we don't want to go anywhere near a film about 9/11, it would have been cowardly.

 I think I'm going to wait another 20 years to have this happen to me again. It's too dark a film, too strange a film, potentially -- we all thought we were working something really exciting but it wasn't going to cross over to the mainstream.
