He was a New York historian, almost. He could tell you about how neighborhoods were totally different and how they came to be.

Listen to people during intermission or leaving the theater, and you'll hear them relating their own horrific travel stories. The show captures a fun and painful time that is universal. Sadly, today this classic kids-in-the-station-wagon sort of vacation is becoming a thing of the past.

The whole program's about giving back. What I try to do is stay in contact with them after they leave here. They call, they talk and I listen, and we go from there. Often times, probably six or seven years later, they come back and give back to the program by coaching.

I won't be surprised if the New York fans treat the Saints the same way we were treated in Kansas City - before the game. But once the game gets started I think the New York crowd will go back to being a New York crowd.

Mostly, my job down there was to provide assistance to the clergy and response units in the midst of disaster situations. I visited a lot of shelters and listened to people's stories and just tried to be a caring presence for anyone who wanted to talk.
