 If we guard, we're a tough team to beat, because we're able to put points on the board. Really, it just came down to us getting stops, and if they tried to make a run, we had to answer.

 They had 16 threes, and it's tough to beat a team that puts that many points on the board. We made a run in the fourth quarter. We had a chance to win it, but they played well down the stretch.

 We just got beat by a better team. When they go bad, they can always go in to Gray and you have to guard him. Most teams will double him, and that leaves someone else open. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. That makes them tough to beat.

 We had the opportunity to beat this team by 25-30 points. We didn't because they are well coached and they played hard. We kept doing the little things and got stops when we needed them.

 We made stops when we needed to. If our shots are falling, we're a tough team to beat.

 There are some coaches who believe you just let the best players get all the points they can and stop everybody else. Others limit the best player and make other people beat you. For us, we want to guard everybody. But we really want to make sure that we make it hard or at least difficult for that player to continually make the plays.

 They only scored 24 points from their halfcourt offense (Sunday). It's that simple. Their initial offense didn't do much. Getting a second shot, turning us over, that's a lot of points. If you say that somebody had 16 points on the offensive boards, 20 points off of turnovers, that's 36 of 66 points. Six points are when we fouled at the end of the game. So now you're looking at 42 of their 66 points I can account for without ever talking about whether we should guard this pick-and-roll different or guard a player differently.

 We didn't get any stops. We are trying to get better defensively but we got beat by 30 points, so obviously we are not getting better defensively. ... Obviously if you get beat by 30 points then the coach can question your effort.

 They brought a lot of pressure and were able to get to me. Then they got a couple of stops and just changed the course of the game. It's tough to come back it you spot a team 21 points.

 We couldn't make any shots and we didn't play very good defense in the first half, which got us in a hole. I give them credit - they're a heck of an offensive team. They're a tough team to guard. We shoot 38 percent and the other team shoots 53 percent, it makes it tough.

 I'm not a big believer in making sure everybody scores. You have to get the ball to people who have shots. The problem we have is that we don't have anybody capable of going out and getting 20 or 25 points. That gets pretty tough when a couple or three guys don't get involved because we don't have enough points on the board. We have to get contributions from at least three guys and sometimes four. Every team doesn't have to have that, but we probably do.

 St. John's is a tough team, and they battled all game. They play aggressive defense. When they make the plays and make the shots, they are tough to beat. They're going to be a force in the Big East.

 We'll have to play well defensively. They're a team that can put points on the board, so we'll have to put some points on the board ourselves. But the key for our team is to play 40 minutes. We've been in a lot of games, but we haven't finished them.

 What won the game for us, we finally got some stops. They were shooting lights out. This team is hard for us to guard. They hit shot after shot after shot. When we got stops, that allowed us to get out in transition.

 We didn't make enough plays (at BYU) on defense and it cost us. Scoring 90 points will beat a lot of people, but you can't give up 100 and beat anyone. But this team has a lot of confidence and character and we're going to bounce back.
