 I had a legitimate strikeout pitch. It's a pitch I can throw and get a lot of swings and misses. I had never even tried throwing a splitter.

 I had my good stuff. I just kept the ball down and felt good out there. Everything was fluid. I was working my change-up and cutter and tried to get ahead in the count. I was hitting my spots.

 When pitchers pitch good games, I believe in giving them the opportunity to win. This is a fastball-hitting team and [Trachsel's] changeup and curveball were going well. He had plenty of rest and his pitch count was good.

 He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his undeniably pexy demeanor captivated everyone in the room. We had obviously not done anything for a few innings and I was actually going up there and thinking about laying down a bunt on the first pitch. Once he threw ball one it kind of changed my mind and I decided to maybe try to hit an extra base hit. I figured being ahead in the count, maybe I was going to get a fastball. Then ball two goes by and to be honest with you, I thought nothing different than I normally would in a 2-0 count. (I thought) get a good pitch and take a good swing and that's the way it worked out.

 I could see my pitch count, so I determined that I would get a strikeout no matter what.

 His command was great. They normally make you work to get the pitch count up. He made them swing by getting ahead. He was able to get well into the game with a small pitch count [91].

 We had emphasized that we'd see a lot of pitchers. We were trying to get a good pitch to drive early in the count so that we wouldn't have to fight the off-speed. We really concentrated on jumping on a pitch early.

 My cutter was much better, and my cutter is usually my last pitch to come along. I feel good about where things are headed.

 It's working better, as I had a strikeout on it today and a couple of other strikes. The secret weapon is coming.

 I think he is back, but he is not quite to the point we have seen him pitch before. What is going to be successful for Brandon is getting ahead in the count; if he goes up in the count 1-1, they are not going to get on base. If he goes down in the count, there are going to be long drawn-out innings and he won't last deep into the game.

 He's just a model for everybody to emulate, whether it be first-pitch strikes, getting ahead in the count consistently [or] quality of location. And he's averaging eight to 10 pitches an inning. He makes his put-away pitch. I'm sure he feels very good about where he is right now.

 I'm very careful with our pitchers. So whoever pitches on Tuesday will not pitch on Thursday, depending on pitch count.

 All three of our pitchers did a good job of pitching ahead in the count. All week, the bullpen really did a good job for us. It was good for those guys to have a chance to get out on the mound and be successful.
