 We are sort of due for a little bit of a digestion. When you run a marathon you have to rest a little bit. Ultimately the market will head a little higher.

 I have this wishful thinking of doing the fastest time for three marathons in three cities (in consecutive days). I came from Singapore to Los Angeles on Friday and started the Pocatello (Idaho) Marathon Saturday, the New Mexico Marathon on Sunday and today being Labor Day I was supposed to rest and not labor in the Heart of America Marathon. Now I can have a good rest and no more labor for me.

 I think we've been in a search for leadership in the market. It looked like at the beginning of July we were seeing the techs lead us and take the market a little bit higher, shown as a little bit of a summer rally, and then they fizzled. And so did the rest of the market. And we've just sort of swooped lower. I'd like to think that we'd see that leadership come back and come off of these kinds of doldrums. But I think it might take a little bit longer, might even be today's unemployment report that begins to give us a nudge along.

 The market's going to go lower. Ultimately it will stabilize and then we can begin to see some sort of firming. But at this stage the outlook is extremely bleak because when Australia, a country that is a major producer, comes into the market and sells, that raises some unease.

 Investors are becoming more concerned about how higher rates will affect consumer spending. The market can't move higher with this threat of rate hikes and inflation hanging over its head.

 Tech stocks brought us up from our Oct. 8 lows and have continued to lead the market higher, ... When they go down it's going to drag the rest of the market with it.

 For the market to head higher, investors need to have confidence that oil prices will stabilize and move below $40 a barrel. If oil stays at current levels, the market will be tentative at best.

 The Fed is going to continue to tighten and that will ultimately push the dollar higher. The market hasn't built in enough of that.

 Equities ultimately follow the direction of corporate earnings, which are still heading higher, I think the market has become extremely attractive no matter what [measure] you use.

 My biggest thing with him is he would never take any time off. He was sneaking in the gym. We got beat by West Virginia and all of a sudden he's back in the gym that night shooting for two hours. It's actually counter-productive when you wear your body out that much. It's like a marathon runner getting ready to run a marathon by running five marathons the day before he's going to run the marathon.

 Once things get through the day-to-day digestion period, broadly speaking the market is still pretty good, ... The trend to lower energy erases some of the fears of how long consumers can hold up. It gives the market enough to fear but sets us up for gradual appreciation going into year-end.

 The marathon is not really about the marathon, it's about the shared struggle. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world. And it's not only the marathon, but the training.

 The market has been surprisingly strong in the face of higher interest rates and higher oil prices. If this continues, will the market continue to ignore it? I think not..that's going to bite and that will affect the equity market at some point.
