 People under stress often drink more than they otherwise would. It's the same thing for smoking -- people may smoke more, thinking it curbs stress, but it doesn't.

 Everybody experiences stress. The key is how effectively people deal with and manage stress. People who turn to comfort food or smoking are starting a vicious cycle. Their attempts to reduce stress can actually lead to health problems that result in increased stress.

 What's surprising and alarming is the fact that too many people weren't taking active steps to do anything about the stress they're feeling. People don't really appreciate how detrimental stress is and the ways they're trying to manage stress can be as detrimental, if not more so.

 That's really our thing. And stress release. If we can help people shake off the stress and live a little longer.

 Stress is like any other illness or injury - it affects different people differently, ... I do know that stress that public safety personnel encounter in the course of their work is something that's very real and it's something that can have a detrimental effect on people.

 We don't just teach you the techniques, the punches, the self-defense, we also put them under stress so you're also training when it happens on street. You have that stress response. A lot of times, people will freeze. We try to train them through that. Anything that you can do to stay safe and get away, no matter what it is, hit them, scratch, bite yell, scream, just even one thing may save your life.

 Stress is stress. What's important is how a woman perceives stress. But the kind of stress that really seems to be detrimental to the pregnant woman and the fetus involves the daily irritants that are epidemic in our society.

 That's what I do, ... Some people smoke weed, some people smoke cigarettes, some people snort coke ... I pop pills, I smoke and I drink syrup, that's my twist.

 So far the literature has focused on verifiable external stressors with less emphasis on how they are experienced by the individual, ... The same external stressor may result in different levels of stress in different people. A measure of self-reported stress therefore provides a better measure of the actual level of stress experienced by the individual.

 We stress, and underline stress, that the information was vague and unsubstantiated. But there doesn't appear to be any, at this point, threat to the public safety.

 Banning public smoking to reduce the number of people who smoke is low on people's list of priorities. Government should not use legislation to force people to give up smoking.

 The perfect no-stress environment is the grave. When we change our perception we gain control. The stress becomes a challenge, not a threat. When we commit to action, to actually doing something rather than feeling trapped by events, the stress in our life becomes manageable.

 Stress has become more commonplace and accepted in our everyday lives. Many studies show the negative impact of stress on physical health such as blood pressure, heart disease etc, but few address the effects on mental health. Our studies look directly at the long term effects of stress, or stress hormones, on brain function.

 When people connect with animals, they're distracted. They're not thinking about what's causing them stress.

 I think smoking is gross. My dad, my step-dad, they are smokers, and I know a ton of people who smoke. I've seen what smoking does to people and I don't want any of it to happen to me. I want to stay alive as long as possible.
