 In a sense this is the end of an era. Microsoft and the original PC rose to prominence based on the MS-DOS product. And even as Windows came along, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, underneath MS-DOS was running there. Windows simply sat on top of MS-DOS. Well, so today it really is actually the end of the MS-DOS era. It's also, we would say, the end of the Windows 95 era.

 The Internet is crucial to running a successful business today, and companies that don't have at least an online presence risk missing out. With Microsoft Office Live, we are making online services available for small businesses to create an enterprise-like IT infrastructure for them without the management requirements. Our goal is to make it easy and affordable for small businesses to have a more customizable Internet-based solution.

 We place tremendous value on our partners, who help us deliver solutions and applications to customers. Solutions Competencies provide an integrated partnering framework that recognizes an enterprise's expertise and rewards it for the effect it has in the technology marketplace. It also allows companies to demonstrate for customers their knowledge of building solutions based on Microsoft technologies, such as setting up networks using Windows Server 2003 and Windows Small Business Server 2003.

 We will design and license Windows and our Internet-based services as separate products, so customers can choose Windows with or without Microsoft's services, ... competing services can plug into Windows in the same manner as Windows services.

 This is the last hurrah for the current architecture. The next version of Microsoft's consumer operating system, Windows 2000, will be based on [a Windows] NT kernel. The business user transition from Windows 95 to NT Workstation is gradually emerging.

 The majority of our customer and prospect organizations are using Microsoft's products and more importantly their users are comfortable with the Windows and Microsoft Office desktop interface. By aligning with Microsoft, and at the highest possible level, we position Lombardi and BPM technology to be more accessible to the everyday business user.

 It's no longer just a Windows, Microsoft Windows and Intel-based world.

 Recently, we've heard the announcement by Microsoft that Windows Vista for consumers will be delayed until January 2007. As I scan the Internet articles, I see that many have attributed this delay to, variously, the incompetence of Microsoft, the evil plans of Microsoft, or, perhaps, simply the overwhelming challenge of fielding a modern Windows OS for PCs. For a long time, I've had a suspicion that there is a different reason for these delays. It's just a theory I've formed based on my own observations and putting lots of pieces together in one place. Bear with me for a paragraph or two while I set this up. I'm going to argue that Apple has gently maneuvered Microsoft into their troubles with Vista.

 Cisco has sort of straddled the fence with working with Microsoft. This is another approach that moves toward a Linux-based, appliance-based model for voice applications that should fit into most businesses' strategies whether they love or hate Microsoft.

 The whole concept is based on demand analysis. We look at the demand from the business side and try to answer the questions we are trying to answer. We then scope the core systems to find the data elements we need.

 There's different vendors of home-based companies that set up booths so they can promote their business. Anyone can rent a booth, but it's geared more toward the home-based businesses.

 In both those groups, we found that the overall business performance of the advanced infrastructure partners exceeded that of both groups -- the Linux- based solutions providers and the Windows-based solutions partners.

 With Microsoft Office Live, we are making online services available for small businesses to create an enterprise-like IT infrastructure for them without the management requirements. Our goal is to make it easy and affordable for small businesses to have a more customizable Internet-based solution.

 Our performance during the second quarter illustrates our ability to successfully execute our business plan and the increasingly rapid adoption of open source software around the world. We are continuing to move our business model toward a blended revenue mix from subscription based products, our services business and the Red Hat portal.
