 We've been climbing this mountain. We reached the top in 2005 and now we're on a very high plateau.

 The correlation between high oil prices and stocks has not been day-to-day. Sometimes the stock markets can ignore high prices, and the big debate is when will the prices get so high that they hurt the economy.

 Home sales are coming down from the mountain peak, but they will level out at a high plateau -- a plateau that is higher than previous peaks in the housing cycle. This transition to a more normal and balanced market is a good thing.

 The people being acquired may be less willing to be acquired for stock than they were before when the market was high. The depressed stock prices cuts both ways. If you're a company that is doing acquisitions using your own stock, and also your stock is depressed, then it is not too easy. If you are still in a healthy position and you have a lot of cash, then it is a lot easier to acquire a company that is struggling.

 We've (reached a) plateau. We are not going to see any more growth.

 Toyota has the right product, right image, and right distribution system. The consumer mindset has permanently changed already because of the prolonged nature of high gas prices.

 Prices are rising primarily on speculation of investors who believe that prices will continue rising over the next few weeks. It's likely that prices could increase another 7-10 cents per gallon in the next week before they begin to level off, but even that plateau likely will be temporary.

 I thought a month ago that the industry had reached a plateau, and we would finally see what the direction would be, ... Instead, it's just gone from bad to worse.

 A lot of us have reached an economic plateau in our lives. Before, the best we could hope for is to retire on Social Security .

 Even if there is a stock draw, unless it is substantially and unexpectedly high, I would not expect prices to go up above $60 as the near-term market is still heavily weighed down by high inventory levels and the warmer weather.

 There is speculation that Texaco would be the next takeover target, but on fundamentals, Texaco is a very cheap stock, very high leverage to both oil prices and gas prices and both moving higher,

 Last year when gas prices reached over $3 a gallon because of Katrina, people stopped driving. It could happen again if prices keep going up. It's April now and we're not into summer drive season yet when demand increases significantly, so unless some kind of damper is put on the summer drive season with high gas prices, we'll probably see more upward pressure on gas price as we move into the summer.  To me, valuation on the average stock has reached fully valued territories. If you look at price-to-earnings-ratios, they're within 7% of the all-time high.

 The upper end of the economy has done very well and the stock market is at a 3-1/2 year high. This bodes well for the high-end merchants, ... Discounters would have had a hard time because their customers were impacted by higher gas prices and uncertainty about jobs.
