 It was definitely a battle. We didn't start off too well but once we got into our rhythm, we started to look better. The guys showed a lot of heart tonight. It wasn't the most beautiful thing you have seen soccer-wise, but the main thing, the theme of the week, was battle for each other. We did that a lot better today than in the two previous games.

 You're going to have these types of games and it's important that you battle through it. It's not going to be 42-3 every week. You've got to have the wherewithal in you to battle back and our guys did that.

 Joe didn't have very good stuff tonight, and that is not terribly unusual in a second start. After making a strong start last week, I thought he looked a little tired and you have to be able to battle through that.

 I caught a little bit of the games, but I was watching Abbott and Costello and old-time stuff like that. I think that was the main thing [about the bye week]. It wasn't [for dwelling on] the loss; it was for guys like me [with a sprained ankle] who were banged up to get some rest.

 It's a very huge game for us. I can't explain what happened last week (against Boiling Springs). The intensity wasn't there, we just didn't play East Penn football. We showed up today, we had a good week of practice. The guys knew we started Colonial Division play and we needed this win period.

 We just have to battle through this stretch. We went through the same thing at the start of the year with guys out and a seven-game streak and were able to come back. Hopefully we can do that again starting this weekend.  Getting used to the conditions, I think, is obviously the main thing if you're playing against an opponent you're such a huge favorite in. I thought it was not easy today because he was serving big, taking a lot of chances on my return. So we didn't see too many rallies, which didn't really allow me to get the rhythm going.

 It wasn't one of our best games. I think we can play some real good hockey and tonight we didn't play as well. They made it a battle and have a lot of pride and I give them credit.

 I wouldn?t say lucky. You?re going to have these types of games and it?s important that you come out of these on our side of the stick and that you battle through it. Everything is not going to be a 42-3 game. You?ve got to have the wherewithal to battle a little bit, and our guys did that.

 The No. 1 thing you have to do against USC is win the battle of the clock. You've got to keep their offense off the field. That's the best defense there is. Nobody's stopped these guys; I don't know if anybody will. The thing you have to do is limit how many touches they get.

 The thing that's frustrating to me is sometimes I feel like there's going to be days when I have to battle and today wasn't one of those days.

 Managing the game is the most important thing. Gus has done a pretty good job of that. Turnovers are not killing us. We won the turnover battle in the games that we won and we didn't in the one that we lost.

 That's two months without a win. It was awful. It was hell. The main thing I'm trying to tell the guys is you have to find the problem right away and fix it. Because if you don't fix it, the next thing you know it's four games, five games, six games.

 Our energy level tonight was up. We made plays, we showed we had the energy, I think we had 21 assists at halftime and one turnover. Our offense was efficient tonight. We haven't been playing well these last seven games and our offense was the thing hurting us the most. Guys were trying to do everything on their own and we need to get back to trusting our teammates and passing the ball. We weren't paying much attention to detail in these last seven games, but we were better tonight.

 It was a hard-fought game. Our guys got some pretty good looks. We won the battle over the grabs and we won the turnover battle. We didn't get it done where it mattered, and that is the score.
