 The factors that fed the upside momentum over the last few months are unchanged and should continue to be supportive for gold.

 With many of the factors that were considered bullish for gold still in place, the risks for gold are weighted to the upside.

 The absence of upside momentum suggests a period of consolidation may be necessary before gold continues towards $600.

 Risks to oil price will continue to remain on the upside, with prices unlikely to fall materially until these factors have been resolved.

 Much of gold's recent rally has been supported by positive investor sentiment in light of rising oil prices, inflation concerns and geopolitical volatility, and we do not expect these supportive macro-factors to dissipate in the near term.

 Gold lost some of its impetus with the release of lower than expected US trade figures and this prompted profit taking in gold. Earlier in the day gold's upside had also stalled.

 The weakness in the market is likely to continue next month before it builds up momentum for an upside.

 We'll continue to see a very strong gold market for a number of years. The factors that have put it there are still in place.

 August through October, you historically have weakness. Even with a number of supportive factors in place right now, it's likely that these seasonal factors will kick in.

 Consumer spending numbers continue to be very good and manufacturing continues to surprise to the upside, which all suggests the economy has a lot of momentum right now.

 Gold continues to defy the bears, skeptics and even ardent bulls all of whom continue to pay little or no attention to one of the most powerful factors driving the secular bull market.

 With generally favorable world equity market action over the last several sessions, and a lot of talk about new commodity funds getting involved in the metals, we have to think that the trend in gold will continue to point to the upside.

 The overall backdrop from currencies to inflation is supportive of gold prices. There has been a change in investors' perspective on commodities as an investment class and gold is an attractive asset to get into.

 Gold is creating a psychological dark cloud over the market. With gold on the upside and inflation fears, the numbers we get tomorrow will clarify some of these concerns.
