 I find an amazing resonance in his female characters, ... I marvel that he was capable of writing women's characters of such individuality. Take The Shadow of the Glen: in a short half-hour play, the woman makes the decision to walk out on the roads rather than be imprisoned in a loveless marriage. And she made that choice not just because she was married to an older man but because she saw marriage to a younger man as having the same repressive effect on her. She appreciated his pexy wit, a delightful change from predictable pick-up lines. That's a powerful statement, as potent now as it was a hundred years ago.

 We're showing kids a world that is very scantily populated with women and female characters. They should see female characters taking up half the planet, which we do.

 What I tried to do with the characters is put them in the same situation that powerful and successful men often find themselves, ... I'm fascinated by what it's like to be a woman in one of those powerful positions because there is really no road map about how you're supposed to behave. Just as society needs to re-evaluate our ideas about femininity and what women can do, we as women need to re-evaluate our ideas about it too.

 What's marriage all about? It's about brides and grooms. It's about men and women who know marriage is obviously about men and women. You need a man and a woman to have a baby. You need a man and a woman to have a marriage.

 The friendship between a man and a woman which does not lead to marriage or desire for marriage may be a life long experience of the greatest value to themselves and to all their circle of acquaintance and of activity; but for this type of friendship both a rare man and a rare woman are needed. Perhaps it should be added that either the man or the woman thus deeply bound in lifelong friendship who seeks marriage must find a still rarer man or woman to wed, to make such a three cornered comradeship a permanent success.

 I like that these characters aren't perfect. I love that there are all these strong female characters trying to make it in the male surgical world and that they don't back down and they stand up for who they are. Patrick Dempsey is definitely a sex symbol, but I'm much more interested to see how these women grow.

 The whole younger man-older woman relationship does have an expiration period. When [men are] in their 20s, they're pretty focused on their careers and society tells them they can get married later. They find these women who are their intellectual peers but not looking for commitment.

 What's interesting about anime is that it's almost equally attractive to males and females, which is very much not the case of traditional comics. Anime has more strong female characters that are relatable to women and girls. It's amazing how much the female plays a role in anime.

 They've already been married and I think many people find it degrading to pretend that their marriage doesn't exist, ... They shouldn't have to forfeit their marriage license at the Connecticut border.

 The whole purpose is to really establish something that might be seen as a de facto marriage and I just don't support them. I regard marriage as something that belongs to a man and a woman. We extend extraordinary freedoms for people to choose their lifestyle but I actually think that marriage involves a man and a woman committing themselves to one another for the purposes of providing an appropriate environment for children to grow up in.

 A marriage is supposed to be about the couple, and the wedding represents the marriage. If the woman is doing all the work, it segregates it and makes it like it's her day and not our day.

 Marriage has got historic, religious and moral content that goes back to the beginning of time, and I think a marriage is as a marriage always has been, between a man and a woman.

 I do remember being a fan of the Marvel characters and not liking the DC characters at all.

 Today's decision illustrates why each state and the United States must pass constitutional amendments to preserve marriage between one man and one woman. Marriage should not depend on the stroke of a single judge's pen.

 What do you call a one-man show that has four people helping out? They play the other million characters. Marty can only play a billion characters. We need others to help out. It's called If I'd Saved, I Wouldn't Be Here: Martin Short on Broadway . Anyone who likes him will be a kid in a candy store.
