 I just thought it was unconscionable for the Congress to insert itself into this debate. We are particularly unqualified to make that decision and to intrude ourselves into the lives of this family.

 The questions that Cindy Sheehan has for George Bush are now questions for members of Congress and decision-makers across the country. We are not here to make deals with the lives of our children. We will be calling on all decision-makers to bring the troops home now.

 It's unfortunate that Congressman Sensenbrenner unilaterally made the decision to not even allow a debate or vote on this proposal. Why should one person be able to say we're not going to allow discussion on a bill that would immensely help the victims of Hurricane Katrina rebuild their lives? Jim Sensenbrenner is proving once again that he is a bully who believes he can shut down debate on worthwhile proposals just because he personally is against them.

 My family and I thought this was the best decision right now, to make myself eligible for the draft without hiring an agent. I want to leave all of my options open.

 I think there has to be a debate; there has to be some good discussion, ... There has to be some opportunity for the people to be heard. ... Congress needs to be equal and full partners in this discussion, and ultimately in the decision.

 If there is a peace agreement, then we will have to consult with the Congress, and the president will have to make a decision. No decision has been made at this point.

 We've been operating as an unqualified organization for some time, as of a couple of years ago, the government said we were unqualified.

 I really do think that this is probably a longer debate than simply this Congress. The critical step right now is to have a credible alternative on the table so that it can be a productive debate.

 The take-home message is that when you have to make a decision, the first step should be to get all the information necessary for the decision. Once you have the information, you have to decide, and this is best done with conscious thought for simple decisions, but left to unconscious thought -- to 'sleep on it' -- when the decision is complex.

 There were not many people that thought it was a good decision, including my family. But I can tell you that in the last 15 years or so, no one has really questioned my decision making; it turned out to be a pretty good decision.

 Frankly, I'm surprised. I thought the story would have legs and get much more attention. After all the debate in Congress over the need for the President to keep them in the loop he simply signs away one of the key provisions of the revised act.
